Today we’d like to introduce you to Dillon Warnek
Hi Dillon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ah I spent a few years as a guitar player for bands going around the world and then got burned out on it, and then I moved to Nashville to quit music. Some very dear friends of mine didn’t think that was a good idea and forced me in to a studio to record my songs. And it was the best worst thing anyone has ever done to me, and it was the right thing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never smooth, but it’s just music. Any time I get to hung up on things I remind myself that nobody asked me to do this, I’m choosing to do it and if I write what I’m supposed to write, what’s supposed to happen will happen.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a songwriter and a lot of my work deals with unreliable narrators and finding sympathy in unsympathetic characters. If I’m known for anything, it’s probably how much time I spend with songs, re-writing them until they’re what they’re supposed to be. As for proud, I’m just proud of my work in general, and proud that I’m still making it.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success in writing is saying what you meant to say. I don’t worry really worry about anything that happens after that. I worry about what I can control, and that is the work itself. And that is success enough.
