Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Jezioro
Hi Christina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Nashville native who was born to a musical family, inheriting a heart that beats for music from the very beginning. In fact, my father used to put me to sleep as a baby in one of his guitar cases and I was quite content. With all members of my family continuing to follow professional careers in music, my passion for helping others was something I had always hoped to combine with my artistic and creative talents. Throughout high school and college, I created music in hopes of helping my peers heal and eventually was published as a professional songwriter. My favorite past times were attending live music festivals and feeling the energy of one-ness as people gather to enjoy the show. Along with this lifestyle came challenges and addictions, which ultimately led me to eventually pursuing therapy work once I was able to find recovery. As a fully licensed therapist here in Tennessee for the past 4 years, I have had the pleasure of working with children and families in an agency setting, as well as directing the clinical program at a music assisted substance abuse center called “Recovery Unplugged” in Brentwood, TN. It has been an honor to provide services for all I have worked with. Human beings are so much more alike than we are different, though our differences should be acknowledged and amplified out of love and compassion. I am an advocate for the underdog and queen of the misfits, and now that I work in private practice I am able to provide a variety of services for a wide demographic group. I provide therapy to adults and teens hoping to heal from traumatic experiences, using advanced training in Brain-spotting and somatic therapies as a neuro-experiential framework – therapy working with the oldest parts of the brain and body. I also incorporate music and songwriting into my therapeutic work, and enjoy working with entertainers and creative artists, folks struggling with self-soothing behaviors of any kind, as well as the LGBTQ community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled with severe addiction issues most of my life and was institutionalized frequently from the ages 16-25. Music, friendship, and hope for a better life carried me through. Helping others heal their trauma is natural when we have also seen the darkness.
What does success mean to you?
Many people I work with, including myself, have struggled to think of themselves as “good enough”. In order to break down the true nature of success or being “enough” in this wild world with such high expectations, defining it feels very important. Rather than basing success on a dollar amount or career position, I choose to think about success as acts of kindness, level of experiencing, and depth of love and relationships.
