Meet Claudia Gilles of Gilles Interior Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Gilles

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story began in Medellín, Colombia, where I was born and raised. I grew up with a passion for textiles, as Medellín is known for its textile manufacturing and fashion industry. My father was prominent in this field, which influenced my decision to pursue a degree in textile engineering—a major created to meet the growing demand for professionals in the textile market.

After graduating and working in Medellín for a year, I secured an internship in Manhattan with a printing company in the fashion industry. What was initially a summer internship turned into a permanent position. During this time, I met my husband, and we eventually moved to Sounthern California, where I began working for a furniture manufacturing company. There, I was involved in selecting and designing fabrics and finishes, which ignited my love for interior design. This newfound passion led me to return to school to study Interior Design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.

A few years later, I decided to start my own business in California. Three years ago, I relocated to Franklin and moved my business there as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was hard to adapt to a new culture permanently, and missing my family.

Learning english as my second language was also challenging.

I became a mom of two boys, and it is always hard to juggle motherhood and entrepreneurship. Also starting over when I moved to Franklin, and finding all the my trades was a challenge.
