Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryoko Suzuki
Ryoko, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Aizu (Aizuwakamatsu), a beautiful, sacred region of Japan, surrounded by lush rice fields, mountains, and hot springs. As a child, I dreamt of becoming a professional basketball player, but multiple sports injuries shifted my path. The care and support I received during my recovery allowed me to walk again, which inspired me to pursue Sports Medicine in the United States.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been far from smooth. My first semester in college was particularly challenging—not only was I adjusting to a new language, culture, and societal system, but I was also dealing with the emotional difficulty of being far from my family. However, the true turning point came in my early twenties when I was diagnosed with IBS while working at a busy orthopedic physical therapy clinic and finishing my Master’s thesis.
This experience taught me firsthand how emotional stress manifests as physical illness. At the time, I was teaching yoga and Pilates, but my practice was highly physically intense, which unknowingly worsened my symptoms. Through my healing process, I discovered that deep, unconscious tension had accumulated in my spine, leaving my body numb and my digestive system compromised. This wake-up call led me to a profound understanding of spine-centric modalities, teaching me the importance of listening to my body, practicing self-compassion, and embracing gentleness.
While working in physical therapy, I also noticed a disconnect between mind and body in Western medicine. I realized early on that I wanted to focus on holistic prevention rather than just symptom management. Leaving my full-time job to start my own holistic practice, Ryoko Suzuki – Holistic Healing & Wellness, was a significant decision, but two deep meditative experiences in 2008 reaffirmed my calling to serve others in a more holistic way.
Today, I feel blessed to help people overcome their physical and emotional challenges. However, with the increasing divisiveness and violence in the world, I’ve felt a deeper urge to contribute more meaningfully. In 2022, I started the #TrashTag615 and #TrashTagDMB movements to raise awareness about environmental responsibility. My true mission has become spreading kindness and happiness, values deeply ingrained in my Japanese upbringing, to create a more peaceful world where everyone feels they belong. “Heal ourselves, and heal the world.”
As you know, we’re big fans of Ryoko Suzuki – Holistic Healing & Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in a unique blend of spine-centric embodied therapies and transformational coaching. My work integrates Integrated Holistic Therapy, Transformational NeuroCoaching, Breathwork, Rapid Transformational Hypnotherapy® (RTT®), Vichara Therapy, and Emotional Release with Essential Oils.
By bridging my background in Western medicine with Eastern healing modalities, I offer profound, gentle healing that dissolves physical, mental, and emotional blockages in a non-forceful way.
Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I help clients cultivate inner awareness and align their spines physiologically and energetically. This approach addresses the root causes of pain, limiting beliefs, and emotional discomfort. In this stillness, deep relaxation and transformation occur, leading to lasting changes and a profound sense of inner bliss, known as Svaroopa.
With over 20 years of meditation practice, I create a sacred, safe space for transformation, allowing clients to reconnect with their innate wisdom. My sessions are not passive therapies; they empower clients with simple yet powerful self-care tools to continue their healing journey at home. Self-love and knowing how to care for yourself are the keys to true healing.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am deeply grateful to many incredible mentors who have guided me on my spiritual journey, including my parents, Akemi and Yukichi, who taught me the true meaning of love through their actions. I have also had the privilege of studying with world-renowned teachers, and I learn from my clients and students every day.
My husband, Jeff Coffin, a three-time Grammy-winning saxophonist (Dave Matthews Band, Jeff Coffin & the Mu’tet), has been my biggest supporter, continuously inspiring me to follow my dreams and serve others. His influence has introduced me to the healing power of music, which has become a vital part of my work.
My sister, Yuko, has stepped into a leadership role in our doTERRA essential oils business, allowing us to create a wellness community together in Japan that empowers people, especially women, on their healing journeys.
Lastly, I’m excited to work with Thanda United (Thanda Choir + DMB Fit Crew) as we prepare for the 2025 Cape Town Cycle Tour. This non-profit team is raising funds for the Thanda Arts Organization in Khayelitsha, South Africa, helping young artists overcome generational trauma. Stay tuned for ways to support this important initiative.
