Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Anderson
Hi Christian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
About the Artist:
Christian Anderson has a multi-talented background in percussion, marching band, and theatre.
Since childhood, Christian was gifted with an ear for music.
From the age of 5, Christian picked up instruments such as piano and drums, and began playing at church. Inspired by creative geniuses such as George Lucas, John Williams, and Hans Zimmer, Christian started on the path of becoming an artist who now writes, arranges, and co-produces all of his own music.
Christian’s story is founded on his leap of faith. In pursuit of his childhood dream of becoming a Hollywood actor, Christian originally set out to study in the theatre program at Wayne State’ University. After having written several personal songs, including one which had deeply impacted a close friend, Christian took a risk, leaving college at the age of 19 to boldly trust that God would use his music to bring hope to the heavy-hearted and courage to those who dare to dream.
Today, Christian is best known for his catchy melodies, unique falsetto voice, and theatrical drumming. He has captured the attention of Christian music fans hungry for a bold, cinematic, and inspirational sound, as he has claimed the new genre: “Epic Christian Pop”.
His music has hit radio stations including: Family Life Radio, Smile FM, and many more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with many artists who came from nothing, Christian faced several challenges along the way when he recorded his first projects and booked all of his concerts on his own.
In 2017, Christian raised money to fund the recording of his first album. With the support of his friends and fans, Christian’s Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign succeeded. Throughout the course of the recording process with his first producer, Christian was sold high hopes and lofty promises that ultimately fell through. The recording process of his first album was dragged out over a 2 year period, after which Christian had faced enough. Starting back from scratch, with no money left and no music to show for his efforts, Christian set out in search of a new producer. In January of 2020, Christian met a new production team and began work on his album which is now known as “You Pull Me Up.” At this seemingly pivotal moment, there was not an end to the hardships Christian would face ahead. In March of 2020, the world locked down, and Christian was confronted by his greatest “rock bottom” yet. Amidst the financial crisis and his own battle with depression, Christian still proved tenacious and determined to show the world that his success was only just beginning.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Christian is known for being an artist who takes pride in writing and producing all of his own music. What sets Christian apart from other artists is his passion, vision, and foresight for each and every song and music video he creates. From storyboards to lyrics, Christian spares no details in his work. Until his recent release of his latest Christmas single, “I Heard The Bells (Peace On Earth)”, Christian had never collaborated with other writers on his own work.
About his new Christmas song! – You’ve never heard a version like it! Taking a suggestion from his friend and radio promoter, Chris Hauser, Christian was inspired in his search of a classic and unique Christmas song. On a car ride home from the airport, Christian’s dad introduced him to a few versions of I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day, which instantly inspired Christian to reimagine and create something entirely new, cinematic, and refreshing.
When pitching his concept to his producer, Christian toyed with the idea of injecting a fun version of the Carol Of The Bells melody in-between sections of the song. In order to make it work, that would mean changing the original time signature of the song from 4/4 to 6/8.
After only his first try, it fit like a missing puzzle piece. But one thing was missing:
a new chorus.
Christian and his producer sat down and came up with a new and original chorus melody together using words from the original song. Once they were almost finished, Christian told his producer, “I need some hallelujahs in this.” While in his home studio, Christian wrote some final choir parts near the end of the song. If you listen closely, you’ll catch the choir singing the echoing lines of “Peace On Earth” and “Hallelujah.”
When presenting his song for the opportunity to be performed at a popular annual Christmas concert, Christian played his demo for only 20 seconds, after which the music director said, “PAUSE THAT! This solves my problem! I’ve been wanting to do this song for years and couldn’t find a version that I liked until now!”
