Check Out Garrett Huffman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Huffman

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My musical journey started in 2020 when I taught myself how to play the guitar during Covid and quarantine. My brother had been taking guitar lessons at the time but had stopped because of everything that was going on in the world. So, one day, I found the old guitar he had been using and decided to sit down to try and play it. I quickly began to fall in love with playing the guitar, singing, and even songwriting. I did that for several months getting better to the point where I could sing and play a full song. Once I had accomplished this, I wanted to try my hand at a live show just for fun and maybe make a little bit of money. My best friend’s dad was the manager of a restaurant called Sports Page in Charlotte, NC and in May of 2021, he gave me my first opportunity to perform with my friend Micah Stiwalt. I’ll always be so thankful to him for trusting me enough to play in his restaurant. Since then, I’ve played over 450 shows all over North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee opening up for notable acts such as Drake White, Marcus King, and Josh turner and playing for multiple cities and towns. I have also been blessed to have signed an independent record deal with Iron Gate Records and an endorsement deal with Willow Creek Guitars. I have written over 100 songs and have released 9 songs so far with many more scheduled for 2025 along with an EP that I am currently working to release as well. One of my songs, “A Story Like Ours” was my first ever duet with the incredibly talented Julia Golden. I have amassed over 100,000 streams on all platforms and over 10K monthly listeners on Spotify. In addition, on January 20th, 2024, my band and I were able to win the Carolina Country Music Association (CCMA) Entertainer of the Year award for North and South Carolina. It was such an incredible honor to win this award and won with the most votes ever cast in the competition. I want to give My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, all the glory and honor for allowing me to do what I love and opening doors when they needed to be opened. I am now writing more songs, working on an EP, discussing a 2025 South East tour with my record label and am so excited to share everything we have been working on for 2025.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been smooth, but I’m grateful for the challenges I’ve faced. They’ve taught me a lot about the music business and, more importantly, about myself. One of the biggest hurdles in the beginning was getting restaurants and venues to trust me enough to perform. My dad and I drove to over 100 restaurants, and while many turned me down, some said yes. Those initial opportunities were crucial in shaping my path and have ultimately led me to where I am today. I truly appreciate every step of this journey, as each challenge has contributed to my growth as an artist.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I want to most importantly thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for giving me the talent and passion for music. I am immensely thankful for my parents, who have supported me wholeheartedly and never missed a single show out of all the ones I’ve played. I wouldn’t be nowhere close where I am today without them. I also want to thank my incredible band—Alex Wolfe, Dan Gonzalez, Sloane Letourneau, and Justin Robinson, —for dedication, all the hard work, and being the best bandmates. A special thanks to Mark Skoda at Iron Gate Records and David Mottinger at Willow Creek Guitars for their guidance and support. I’m also grateful to Roger Calhoun at Guitar Wishes, Brandon Burdette, my Creative Director, and to Dorothy Houston and Eddie Marlowe for everything they do to help me succeed.
