Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Hauser
Hi Sofia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for singing started out as a hobby. I took voice lessons around eight years old and would sing at county fairs, open mics and recitals in my home state of Washington. The first song I ever performed was The House That Built Me by Miranda Lambert and I still sing it to this day. I was drawn to country music as a little girl, artists like Kellie Pickler, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts. As the years went on I kept singing around town here and there. When high school came around I joined theater and choir. I decided to fully pursue music after I graduated high school in 2017 and went down to Los Angeles with a producer who got me meetings with Universal Music Group and Atlantic Records. At that point I didn’t know which direction I wanted to take my music, either singing Pop or Country, Country Pop or more of an R&B vibe. So I came back to Washington and took a few months to decide on a genre and hone in a sound, ultimately deciding and all along knowing I wanted to pursue country music. I then met with a manager in Nashville who signed me to his management company and set up writes with pro-songwriters who co-wrote a few songs with me. The next year in 2020 I made the biggest move of my life to Nashville and have been writing songs and playing shows ever since!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the music industry, it never is! People come and go, so it was hard at the time when I stopped working with my management team. And then you just have opportunities that fall through, seeing people rise so quickly and get record deals and go on tours, those kinds of things. But everyone’s journey is different and I know my story is not over yet.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer and songwriter in Nashville. I love storytelling and creating different narratives and perspectives and tying them to melodies. When it comes to the music I release, it all comes from an honest and experienced place. My debut single Cowboy Looks Good on Him is about watching my husband move to Tennessee and become a cowboy. My follow up single I Wish I Missed You More is a song to my home state of Washington, telling of how I wished it wasn’t so easy to move away from what has always been familiar. I love to tell my life stories in song and I feel like my specificity, honesty and sound is what sets me apart.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
In music? It depends. What are your goals? My biggest dream is to play the Grand Ole Opry and I haven’t succeeded in doing that yet. But at one point my goal was to move to Nashville and now I’ve done that. I don’t want to put too much emphasis on the word “success” because it’s sort of all encompassing and scary to look at everything I eventually want to do in music from a Birds Eye view. Everyday I’m doing something to move me further along in my music career.
