Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Elaine Borum
Hi Nina Elaine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My mom says that I have always loved books and always loved God, even as a young child, so a Christian bookstore fits me pretty well!
I started dreaming of creating a space where people from all walks of life could grow in their faith in Christ together. I had a ton of ideas and ways to do that, but landed on a bookstore as the vehicle for this dream for a couple of reasons. The fact that I loved serving in my church bookstore on Sundays combined with the need for a christian bookstore in Clarksville was enough of a green light for me to say yes to this bold dream.
I started doing pop ups and having a website for orders. The number one question I got was “Where are you located” so I knew I needed a physical space. Since opening, I have been blessed to see people come through the doors and find the perfect book for their journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! I will say that some things were hard simply because I was comparing myself to other businesses. When I am able to focus on the direction that God has specifically for my business, it is much less stressful! If I could go back, I would have allocated my money in different ways for this business, but I’m truly thankful for the lessons learned for my growth!
As you know, we’re big fans of Bo Society & Books. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Bo Society & Books is currently the only Christian bookstore in Clarksville. We had a major Christian bookstore shut its doors a few years back and people have been waiting for someone to step up and create that space again. People have described us a boutique bookstore or a book lounge. We have an eclectic collection of new and used books. We focus on faith based books and also have books on leadership, business, home & garden, etc. We are proud to support local vendors by carrying art, skin care products, gifts and more. I am most proud of the fact that when people come in they usually say that they can feel God’s presence in the space. That’s what I want, for people to be drawn closer to the Lord and grow in their faith!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The Covid Crisis gave us all a forced break. During that break from work, people, etc we had time to dream again. I published a book and started my business plan during Covid…it’s amazing what can happen when we can stop the hustle and bustle and lean into our creativity. We should always prioritize time to be creative.
