Today we’d like to introduce you to Ozark The Band
Hi Ozark, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a very young age we all loved music and wanted to perform. Sam Whelan (Guitarist) and Nate Hutson (Bassist) had the idea to start the band. We met Ian Sexton (Vocals), Mason Taylor (Saxophone), and David Hall (Drums) at college at Middle Tennessee State University and we decided to start jamming with each other at “The Apartment.” The Apartment was where we found our sound and starting writing a lot of our songs together as a band. Many hours were spent rehearsing and listening to different songs from our favorite artists and influences during our time at the apartment. We played our first show at Diana Street, a local house venue based in Murfreesboro, TN in March of 2024. We were very interested in seeing the reception to our songs and our sound. The show went very well and was well received. Following the Diana Street performance, we did a short stent at Season’s of Murfreesboro Lounge, where we were able to continue experimenting with our live performances and cut our teeth by playing several hours a show. We have since played a couple shows, and with every performance we are seeing more people come out.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Things haven’t always been smooth. We hit a small roadblock when our drummer, Dave, found out that he would have to move to Charleston, SC, so we haven’t been able to record or rehearse as much as we once were able to. We have managed to find a service that allows us to rehearse over the Internet, similar to Zoom or FaceTime.
Most of our struggles have been trying to get our music out and promoted. As colleges students it has been hard for us to find time to create short form video content or photo/video shoots. We are constantly looking for good artists to work with for album artwork, promotional materials, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are an independent alternative rock band. We aren’t just your typical rock band though, with our influences from Classic Rock, Psychedelia, Alternative Rock, and Folk music, we have managed to find a sound that is unique to ourselves only. The cherry on top on Ozark’s sound is the saxophone played by Mason Taylor. He manages to perfectly suit the songs needs, and add a delicate touch to compliment the aggressive guitars and drums.
Our first single, “Space” is a classic psychedelic rock song that shows influences of the likes of Pink Floyd, Alice In Chains, and More.
Our second single, “Was It Love?” shows a softer side to Ozark. We wanted to show that while we make rock music that makes you want to dance and sing, we can also slow it down and hit the listener in their feelings.
Our upcoming single, “Icarus” is a fan favorite from our shows and is a testament to our ability to make a solid rock song that makes you want to dance and sing along. This was our first song we wrote together as a band, so we are very excited to see people enjoy it so much. We are very excited to see the reception once it is released to the world.
What’s next?
We are very excited for the December release of our upcoming single, “Icarus.”
We are also very excited to announce that our Cassette Tapes, “Ozark Bootlegs Vol. 1” are now available at Century 21 Music in Murfreesboro, and also on our website, ozarktheband.com
We are looking to start booking for a summer 2025 regional tour hitting cities like Nashville, Atlanta, St Louis, Louisville, and more which will be a lot of fun and will help us continue to grow!
