Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Mclaughlin

Hi Alana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My grandfather, Dr. James E. Haney, hosted television show “Comments with Dr. James Haney” from 1980-2022 on channels (WZTV) FOX Nashville, (WZTV.2) CW Nashville and (WUXP) MYTV30 Nashville. At age 8, I became a recurring guest on “Comments.” I taped episodes with my grandfather from 2010 to 2022, discussing fascinating topics I had learned about in school. Taping episodes of “Comments” became our “thing,” our special way of bonding.

My grandfather was diagnosed with dementia in 2022. In collaboration with my grandfather, FOX Nashville and the Sinclair Broadcast Group, I became the successor of “Comments,” renaming the show “Perspectives.” I have been host and producer of “Perspectives” since April 1, 2023.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has been a smooth ride! I have been blessed with a community of friends, family, professors (I am a student at Trevecca Nazarene University) and professional resources that have kept me motivated, focused and grateful.

In addition to my awesome community, this road has been so smooth because I have kept Christ at the forefront of my mind, my work and the impact I seek to leave on Tennessee. Since having aligned myself with His will, I no longer fear the scary obstacles or challenges. My unwavering faith has kept me alive and afloat!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am Nashville-based journalist, community leader and television personality. I specialize in interviewing local movers-and-shakers who have had a positive impact on Nashville/Tennessee communities.

I am known for being host/producer of “Perspectives with Alana McLaughlin”- a popular community-affairs morning talk show that airs on channels WZTV FOX Nashville, WUXP MYTV30 Nashville and
WZTV.2 theCW Nashville on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 5:30, 6:00 and 7:00AM CST.

The objective of “Perspectives” is to “offer a different Perspective” by having
guests from all walks of life discuss their backgrounds, education,
careers, impact on their local community and achievements in the
Nashville area.

What sets me apart from other local journalists is that I have been on local Nashville television over 14 years. If I am not the only person, I am one of few local 22-year-olds with their own cable television show on three major networks.

I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to continue my grandfather’s legacy through my work, and he has been able to witness this. We eat breakfast and watch “Perspectives” as a family every Saturday and Sunday morning.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Nashville’s social and cultural diversity. I am always fascinated by the people I meet each day! I also love the feeling of “southern hospitality” here in Nashville. Wherever you go, you are greeted by smiling faces, twangy accents and a heart-warming sense of community.

The cost of living in Nashville is what I like least about the city. However, I do not complain about how expensive our city is becoming because there is no other city I’d rather live in. There is no place like home!
