Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Naff
Jay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi y’all!
I’m Jay! I have three boys. They make each day wild and fun in the best ways! I’m so thankful for my family! We do just about everything together. Dancing, working out, jeep rides and eating dessert are some of our favorite hobbies. I experienced a lot of postpartum depression with my children. After my third I knew I needed to do something to keep my spirits high. My love for photography was calling so loudly to me. I’ve always loved turning moments into forever memories! That brought Jay Naff Photography to life!
Stepping back in time a bit I grew up in a small town with my dad. My mother worked for the state fair. I met a lady named Sue Addock. She introduced me to photography. One day she had me tag along for a session. Then we went back to her home and I saw my first dark room. She let me develop a picture. My mom got me my first camera was a tasmanian devil polaroid camera . I ventured away went to culinary school and went to work at a bakery, yoga teacher, traveling, paddle board and caregiving. Which I still do most of those today. One thing I found myself doing was taking photos no matter the job. Nov 25, 24 I made jay naff photography !
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For me it was finding the style I wanted. There are so many and it’s hard not to get lost in which you like and what you want to produce. Took a course by Kelly Sticklemaier (photosbykellylynn). Kelly created meraki for photographers. I learned i wasn’t using the full lightroom edition and that changed everything.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I started I thought I wanted to specialize in newborn . I wanted to try everything in the field. Honestly I love doing any style. Weddings and birth stole my heart though. I never thought I’d even try a wedding. Then ended up doing so many this year!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have two that come to mind!
One christmas I got two pomeranian dogs. They were baby and bingo and my first pets and love. Bingo passed and became my first heartbreak. I knew I needed my own once they passed. I now have two named Goten and Lily and they are going on 13 years.
My sister and childhood friend were neighbors and the memories we made are endless. One of my favorite was the concerts we would make. Acting them out and everything from britany spears, the chick’s (early had to die) and more.
