Meet Joshua Costello of Provero Performance and Rehab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Costello

Hi Joshua, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started training fitness clients and athletes back in 2005 in St. Louis before moving to Nashville in 2006. Once I got here, I continued working with athletes, mainly in the Franklin area. It’s wild to think I’ve been in the same industry since then, but I honestly love what I do every day.

During my time in Franklin, I worked with a lot of high school, college, and pro athletes. Over the years, I’ve trained athletes from all kinds of sports, but I found my niche in baseball. It’s become my main focus, and in the last 18 years, I’ve been fortunate to help over 75 professional baseball players.

Interestingly enough, my baseball work caught the attention of Josh Dobbs, a pro quarterback, who reached out for training. He helped me realize there’s a lot of overlap between training quarterbacks and baseball players, and since then, I’ve started working with more QBs, too.

A few years ago, I decided to expand how I support my athletes. Beyond helping them with speed and strength, I wanted to adress injury prevention and recovery. That led me to get my massage license, which has given me the tools to use manual techniques that keep my athletes healthier and performing at their best.

Most recently, I took the leap and started my own training and rehab business, Provero Performance. Right now, we’re working with clients in both the Berry Hill and Green Hills areas. While we work with all kinds of athletes and even the general population, baseball players are definitely the most common group we see.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me, the biggest challenge has been balancing my role as a practitioner and trainer with leading the business as an owner. I love both sides, but it’s tough to find that balance between working directly with clients and building a team.

In my previous business in Franklin, I led a team of 18 trainers, which was an incredible experience. Now, with Provero, I’m back in the start-up phase, and it’s been a different kind of challenge to build momentum and get everything off the ground.

One of the hardest parts has been learning to focus on the priorities each day. It’s not always easy, but I’ve realized that staying intentional with what needs my attention most has been key to moving forward.
