Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Bass.
Hi Renata, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career path certainly hasn’t been linear. I started my journey in hospitality, working in the sales and events departments of hotels and restaurants. Feeling burnt out early on, I pivoted to work in an investment firm in wealth management. After two years of that I realized my creativity, need to feel fulfillment in my work and many of my core values were being neglected or undermined in that industry. So, I decided to return to school to acquire my MBA in Marketing and International Business. That experience absolutely shaped my worldview due to spending a semester abroad at the University of Brighton in England, as well as, several travel study experiences in France, Belgium, Buenos Aires and Peru. Upon graduation, I still had this innate desire to work in a role that serves communities and in some small way makes the world a better place. It took a while, but eventually I landed at a nonprofit national broadcasting company. I spent 8 years there, ultimately leading a national and dynamic Community Engagement (Field Marketing) team of 45. After some time, that organization pivoted strategy and dissolved that team which led me to consider if it was finally time to branch out on my own. From hospitality to finance to world traveler to marketing leader, I knew that in these 20+ years my cup was overflowing with knowledge, wisdom and experience, especially in growing & nurturing leaders. I decided that it was time to tilt that cup and begin to pour into the lives, business and dreams of others by forming my own consultancy. And, here we are! I founded RNB Leadership Consulting this past summer and am so excited for the path ahead.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! If someone were to look at my full resume since graduating from undergrad, they’d likely think “she’s all over the place” “look at all these gaps in employment”! Like many early in their careers, deciding what I wanted to do in my twenties felt impossible. I am a multi-hyphenate, someone who is gifted in many areas, which can end up being a double-edged sword when attempting to find your way, your path, your focus. There have been layoffs, toxic work environments, terrible job markets (hello recession, I’m talking about you! haha), terrible bosses. Nothing was easy. But I ensured I caught every lesson along the way, kept trying and kept moving forward. Eventually, I began to forge my own path while leaving a light in my wake to guide others that may be struggling in finding their way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about RNB Leadership Consulting?
RNB Leadership Consulting collaborates with organizations to develop emerging leadership, strengthen their infrastructure, and design impactful community engagement strategies. Our core business is leadership development with an emphasis on providing career readiness training for the new Gen Z workforce and college students alike. There aren’t many workshops and seminars designed to focus on the early career cohort of staff. Most coaching is connected to raising up great leaders from middle management or executive coaching. However, there is a sizable disconnect between generations in the workplace, and our services can help to close that gap. We partner with mid-large size companies as well as Universities to prepare their youngest and brightest talent for a fruitful career.
We also specialize in helping small business that are poised to scale by ensuring their processes, standard operating procedures and infrastructure can withstand the growth.
Finally, our sweet spot is an offering of strategy development for individuals and organizations looking to build out their philanthropic/charitable giving. We help them answer the question, “How do you align your work, programming or giving with your passions, values and desired impact? “ We help to cast vision and mold a strategic plan to get started and have a sustainable impact on their local communities.
A common thread you may be noticing is our desire to “help in the early stage” to create a foundation for a bright future. That is intentional. The groundwork laid in the early parts of a career, organization or nonprofit can drastically impact the trajectory of their success. RNB Leadership Consulting seeks to ensure that it is solid and pointed as high as possible!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’m fairly new to the consulting space, but I believe niche consulting is going to thrive in the next 5-10 years. More and more organizations are looking for specialized expertise when working with third party agencies and consulting firms. They want customization, intentionality and not something cookie-cutter that they could’ve looked up on ChatGPT. I also believe more resources and investments will need to be made in this new workforce cohort if we hope to pass the torch to a healthy, wise and impactful generation. Of course, there are things like AI, social media and other technology that are constantly evolving and very hard to predict. But at its core, leadership development fundamentally will remain a very much needed tool for long-term success
