Life & Work with Carlos Elvir of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Elvir

Hi Carlos, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I came from Honduras to study in Nashville at Trevecca Nazarene University. With degree in Film and TV Production, I have directed and written short films as well as being a cinematographer. I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures as a hobby and when my roomate’s sister asked me if I could cover their wedding in Dallas I gave it a chance and I enjoyed it a lot. I only had experience with some friends proposal but I found out it is fun to help couples pose on their wedding day and their engagement pictures. After gaining some experience as an event photographer at Conexion Americas and Virgin Hotels, I decided to open my business as a Photographer. That is how CJProductions happened.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been anything but smooth. Since I’m on a Visa, I can only work legally in something related to my field which means that whenever I have no booked weddings or engagements, I am essentially broke. Since my camara is not suited for video, it has been hard to find jobs in that field, even though I have tried to. A lot of ghosting also happens in this field and as foreigner with no money for a car, or a new camera, I’m bounded to only take jobs I am 100% sure I can make here in Nashville.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love taking artistic and architecture pictures which I feel are my strong points as a photographer besides portraits. I like documentary style photography in the weddings I shoot, but I try to accommodate to what the couples are searching. I am essentially proud in the candid photos that feel like movie shots, I feel those are my best pictures thanks to my background in Film. Being able to communicate in both English and Spanish is also really helpful while directing and posing which makes it enjoyable as well.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I made my travels through uber and usually have to schedule the rides in anticipation of the wedding program to get to the locations in time since I don’t have a car. I am also really fond of Music videos and I’m always working on spec MVs in locations I found beautiful.
