Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been captivated by the power of storytelling and its ability to connect and move people. This passion led me to pursue a degree in marketing from the University of Alabama, which laid the foundation for my marketing career and led to me discovering my true passion which is the dynamic world of all things digital marketing.
After graduating, I ventured to Los Angeles, immersing myself in brand and sports marketing. I had the opportunity to partner and collaborate with renowned athletes like David Beckham, Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. While today I have a different outlook on what we marketers call “branding” I have to admit that during this time I would begin to hone my skills in creating compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
In 2015, I returned to my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, after being recruited by a national fitness franchise brand as Vice President of Marketing. Ultimately, I would have the privilege to work alongside and learn, at a granular level, from one of the best Facebook marketers in the world, who also became a pivotal mentor to me. Under his guidance, I delved deep into conversion rate optimization (CRO) and the intricacies of digital advertising, gaining invaluable insights that would shape my future endeavors.
Fueled by a desire to drive tangible results for businesses, I founded Apex Current in 2017. Starting from the humble confines of my home’s basement, the agency quickly gained traction, attracting a diverse range of clients across various industries with clients that include companies like Breakout Games, Club Pilates, Medjet, the U.S. Small Business Administration, EDPA, Iron Tribe Fitness, Rosebox NYC and Farmfolio, to name a few. Our commitment to performance-driven digital advertising has allowed us to be recognized as a Small Business of the Year Finalist, a top 10 ranking among the top digital ad agencies to drive ROI by DesignRush and me being honored as one of the Top CEOs in Birmingham at the Annual CEO Awards hosted by the BBJ.
Throughout this journey, I’ve remained steadfast in my mission to inspire others to pursue their goals with relentless determination. Guided by the belief that “how we do anything is how we do everything,” I strive to lead by example, dedicating 110% effort to every endeavor.
Today, as the founder and CEO of Apex Current, I continue to collaborate with businesses across the United States and abroad, leveraging innovative digital strategies to drive growth and success. Balancing my professional pursuits with my role as a single father of two daughters, I am committed to leading a life that embodies passion, resilience, and unwavering dedication.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Only in my dreams has it been a smooth ride. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced countless challenges along the way. For me, the biggest and most persistent struggle has been balancing my business and personal life. There’s always a tension between the two, and at different times, one—or sometimes both—seemed to suffer.
Early on, I often chose my business over personal priorities, and looking back, that came at a cost. During the first few years of starting my agency, I sacrificed time with my daughters—time I can never get back. It was a tough lesson to learn, but one that shaped my perspective today. Now, I’ll always choose my daughters first, and let the chips fall where they may with the business. That shift wasn’t easy, but it’s one of the most important decisions I’ve ever made.
On a more practical level, one of the biggest challenges I faced was how quickly my business grew in the beginning. To say we had a meteoric rise would be an understatement. Within our first year, we hit over seven figures in Annual Recurring Revenue with significant margins. While that was an incredible milestone, my experience as an entrepreneur was still catching up to the demands of running a rapidly growing business.
I often tell young entrepreneurs today that early, explosive growth isn’t always a blessing. Being on the cover of Fast Company might sound appealing, but fast growth comes with its own set of challenges. As they say, slow and steady wins the race—this is a marathon, not a sprint. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of truly understanding your client or customer avatar. Today, I turn away more potential clients than I take on, even if they can write the check. Taking on the wrong client can come at a huge cost to your business and peace of mind. Learning that lesson was worth its weight in gold.

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, isn’t measured by monetary value. It’s about creating meaningful impact in several key areas of my life and work:
Delivering real value: Success is consistently providing genuine value to the clients I work with, whether through my agency, consulting, or coaching services. Helping businesses grow and achieve their goals is incredibly fulfilling.
Maintaining integrity and expertise: It’s about staying true to the expertise and experience I bring to the table. This includes turning down the wrong clients or saying no to requests that don’t align with what’s best for their business, even if it means having a tough conversation. Success is doing what’s right, not what’s easy.
Mentoring and leading others: Being in a position to guide, mentor, and inspire others is a key part of how I define success. Whether it’s helping a client achieve their next breakthrough or empowering a colleague to reach their potential, these moments matter.
Freedom and time for what truly matters: Success ultimately allows me to spend quality time with my daughters and prioritize the things that truly matter in life. Doing what I love while creating that freedom is the greatest reward.
