Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Martin
Hi Dave, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have spent a lifetime in corporate America in various leadership roles, but entrepreneurship is in my blood. My grandfather was involved in the building of the Flanner House Homes in my hometown of Indianapolis. It was a post-war residential neighborhood in Indianapolis developed in the 1950s as a housing project for African Americans. My father had his own real estate law firm. My mother’s been in real estate and home mortgages, so it’s in my DNA. I started working on side projects in Real Estate in 2007, and it has grown from there. Now I have three subdivisions in the pipeline and I am looking forward to creating single-family homes and townhomes to help more people become home owners.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I made it through the housing crisis in 2009, housing bubbles, COVID, and interest rate increase, all while still growing my business. It has been a great opportunity to learn more about building a resilient business and being flexible enough to pivot when challenges arise, or capture opportunities when I can.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is simple: I create communities and build single-family homes and townhomes at a moderate price to help more individuals become homeowners. I am not a multifamily or commercial developer. I am passionate about creating homes at a more “affordable” price point for families and individuals to create wealth.
Mpact Homes will be the construction side of building production homes. Mpact Homes was created intentionally to reduce the cost of construction for my homes, as well as for other developers and builders who focus on affordable and attainable housing.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories were working on projects with my grandfather. He was not a big talker, but he was a great teacher. I think he knew early on that I had a gift for building things. I still remember being the only person he allowed to touch his tools.
