Conversations with Gabriel Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Torres.

Gabriel Torres

Gabriel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born into a family of musicians who discovered that I could sing in Key when I was around 3 years old. At age 6, I started performing with my Dad and Uncle‘s bands, and at age 13 taught myself to play the guitar. By age 21 I started playing music for a living, playing solo, doing hired recording projects, and filling in as a singer in bands. At age 22 I started my own band, “Lindsay Jordan & The Gypsies”, playing all my original songs in famous venues like The Count Basie Theatre, The Stone Pony and The Bitter End and opening for major acts like The Goo Goo Dolls and Lake Street Dive.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any road, there have been challenges, but all in all music is my passion and there’s nothing I’d rather do with my life! As an artist, some of my challenges have included feeling stuck creatively at times, especially since my job often includes playing crowd pleasing covers on repeat instead of my original music. It can be difficult to come home from that and still have the urge to be creative. It’s also quite challenging being an independent artist and having to do both the creative end and the business end myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time singer, songwriter, and musician. I am proud to have released 6 singles including my upcoming release, Always, on January 10th, 1 EP and 1 live EP on streaming platforms. I’d say that my fans know me for my unique vocal tone and the powerful and relatable messages in my songwriting.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I do studio work creating demos for songwriters who sometimes pitch their songs to well known mainstream artists! So you might hear a song on the radio that I sang first to give the artist a better picture of what the song would sound like with them singing it. I love doing this type of work, and it allows me to use my voice in different ways singing many different genres and styles.
