Exploring Life & Business with Vicky Blue of This Blue Home (TBH) Interior Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicky Blue

Hi Vicky, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Vicky Blue, and I’m the founder and principal designer at This Blue Home Interior Design, based in Nolensville, TN. I have a deep passion for creating spaces that not only look beautiful but also feel like home—where functionality and aesthetics come together in perfect harmony.

My journey to interior design hasn’t been the most traditional, but it’s one that’s shaped me in countless ways. I started with a degree in TV and film production, where I fell in love with the art of storytelling through visuals. After earning my MBA from the University of Michigan, I spent years climbing the corporate ladder, eventually becoming Marketing Director for a Fortune 500 company. Overseeing marketing communications for such a large organization was a challenging and rewarding experience, but it also took a toll. I found myself burned out and yearning for something more fulfilling—something that connected me to my creative roots.

That desire for a change grew stronger after my family and I moved to Tennessee. Surrounded by the beauty of the area, I started pouring my energy into home projects and DIYs, discovering just how much I loved transforming spaces. When a close friend asked for help designing her new home, I jumped at the chance. Seeing her excitement—and feeling how much I enjoyed the process—was the turning point. My husband encouraged me to take the leap, and from that moment, This Blue Home (TBH) Interior Design was born.

As for the name, it felt like the perfect fit—not just because of my last name, but because of everything the color blue represents. Blue is calming, timeless, and versatile. It’s a color that embodies serenity and transformation, much like the spaces I strive to create.

Now, I get to pour my heart into crafting homes that reflect my clients’ unique stories, blending comfort and style to fit their lives seamlessly. It’s been an incredible journey, and I feel so lucky to wake up every day doing something I love, surrounded by the beauty of Tennessee and the people who inspire me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Taking a leap of faith to leave the corporate world and pursue interior design was, without question, the most grueling and soul-wrenching decision of my life. It wasn’t about doubt—I believed in my ability to succeed. It was something much deeper. For years, I had tied my self-identity and worth to my title and career. Stepping away from that wasn’t just a career change; it felt like a redefinition of who I was.

The biggest obstacle I faced wasn’t the fear of failure or what others would think—it was my own internal dialogue. I kept asking myself, What about all the time I’ve spent pursuing this corporate career? What about all the energy and sacrifices I’ve poured into climbing this ladder? Was I throwing it all away? These questions were relentless, and they forced me to confront parts of myself I had never examined.

But a key factor in my decision was my family. My corporate career was demanding, draining my energy and time, and I could see how it was affecting the people I loved most. I wasn’t present in the way I wanted to be as a mom and wife, and it weighed heavily on me. The pandemic brought that into sharp focus—it underscored the toll it was taking on my mental health and highlighted just how precious time with my family was. Thankfully, my kids were still young, and I realized I had time to course correct, to make a change that would benefit not just me but also my family.

Getting through this wasn’t easy. It required deep self-reflection, a lot of prayer, and countless conversations with my husband, who has been incredibly supportive from day one. He helped me see that my worth wasn’t tied to my career title or the years I had spent pursuing it. He reminded me that all those experiences had shaped me and would still serve me in this new chapter.

The lesson in all of this was profound: sometimes, we have to let go of who we think we’re supposed to be in order to step into who we truly are. That realization gave me the courage to move forward, and I’ve never looked back. Now, I channel everything I’ve learned—about resilience, creativity, and growth—into TBH Interior Design. It’s been the most rewarding chapter of my life, and I’m so grateful I took the leap.

As you know, we’re big fans of This Blue Home (TBH) Interior Design. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At TBH Interior Design, we specialize in creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional, tailored to reflect our clients’ unique stories and lifestyles. Whether it’s designing a cozy living room, a welcoming entryway, or a full home, our goal is always to craft spaces that feel personal, timeless, and livable.

What sets us apart is the perspective and expertise I bring from my background. My career started in visual storytelling with a degree in TV and film production, which taught me how to create compelling environments. As a Marketing Director for a Fortune 500 company, I honed my skills in strategy, communication, and understanding people’s needs—key elements I now apply to working with clients. That blend of creative vision and business acumen allows me to approach design with both artistry and practicality.

I’m most proud of how TBH Interior Design has grown and evolved. What started as helping homeowners decorate and redesign their spaces has expanded into full-home new construction projects in partnership with builders across the Nashville and Williamson County areas. Collaborating on new builds allows us to work from the ground up, ensuring the design flows seamlessly throughout the entire home. It’s a milestone I’m incredibly proud of, and it’s a testament to the trust we’ve built with our clients and partners.

At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to understanding our clients’ needs and creating designs that not only look stunning but also work beautifully for their daily lives. Whether it’s considering a family’s young kids, accommodating pets, or designing for a love of entertaining, we prioritize livability and personalization in every project.

What I want readers to know is that at TBH Interior Design, it’s not just about the aesthetics—it’s about creating homes that feel like home. We offer a range of services, from single-room transformations to full-scale design projects and new construction collaborations. My goal is to ensure every client feels heard and valued, and that their finished space brings them joy for years to come.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always been a calculated risk-taker, someone who thrives on pursuing big ideas and making them a reality. Years ago, I heard the term “creative junkie,” and it resonated deeply with me. To me, being a creative junkie means being driven by the excitement and motivation that comes from pursuing new, imaginative ideas—and maybe being a little addicted to the thrill of seeing them come to life.

My journey has been defined by a series of calculated risks, guided by my philosophy of “Why not? It can’t be that hard.” It’s an attitude that keeps me curious, resourceful, and open to new challenges. My husband loves to joke about all the degrees I’ve pursued—TV production, business, and even a culinary degree—but they’re all a testament to my love for learning and my drive to follow through on big ideas.

I’ve also lived all over the country—New York, California, Michigan, Illinois, and now Tennessee—which has given me a broader perspective on design, culture, and the value of stepping into the unknown. Each move, each degree, and each chapter of my life has been a calculated leap toward something bigger, and I’ve carried those experiences into every project I take on today.

For me, risk isn’t about recklessness; it’s about curiosity and courage. It’s about trusting your instincts and knowing that even if something feels big or overwhelming, you can figure it out. That mindset has shaped my business and my life, and it’s why I approach every design project with a mix of excitement, confidence, and adaptability.
