Daily Inspiration: Meet Jenny Cain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Cain

Hi Jenny , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up on a farm in west TN we would go to the local barn dance on the weekends where I developed a love for country music and line dancing. I was always fascinated by all aspects of entertainment. Even as a little girl I wanted to entertain for anyone at anytime. There was something about changing the atmosphere of the room and the smiles it brought to faces that I craved. As time went on I explored everything from acting to singing but dance is really what stuck around through it all. Eventually I found my feet in Nashville TN teaching line dance at the world famous Wildhorse Saloon. That was really a dream because I had watched the Wildhorse on TV as a kid and of course never thought something like that would come my way in the form of an opportunity. But it did and it was the dream that founded my whole dance career.
A few years into my time teaching dance there I had the opportunity to audition to be a choreographer for a music video being done for superstar Alan Jackson. I had done some music videos before but never as the choreographer. The concept was to create a line dance that would be featured throughout the music video and would hopefully carry the song worldwide because of the dance attached to it. Boy did it ever! At that time, the audition was probably the scariest thing I had ever done in this profession. When I was finished dancing for the director and producers, the director said “have you ever done anything like this before? Have you ever worked on a major production?” My answer poured forth without even a thought behind it…”No, but I know I can do this. I was born to do this”. She was quiet for several seconds as we sat in silence looking at each other. She rubbed her chin and said “ok. let’s do it.” Several other choreographers were auditioned that day, but that’s how I got the job. I created a line dance that went viral on an international level and eventually put me on the map as a real choreographer. That was almost 17 years ago. Since then my company Jenny Cain Productions was created and has grown exponentially now housing several divisions such as private event dance instruction, performance teams, and most recently creating our nations very first Talent Agency specifically for elite level country dancers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If I could go back and tell myself anything it would be a few things… Try not to be so intimidated by those who you feel could make or break your career. Do your homework and ask every question until you are comfortable with their expectations. Remember that kindness, respect and a little talent goes a long way. Also, remember that not every opportunity is a good opportunity. Listen to your gut. Pray and let peace lead you to the right open doors. Realize that following dreams will often result in heartache. Expect it, grieve it, but don’t camp there. Keep your head up and look toward the future with hope even if you have to borrow it from someone else.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My company Jenny Cain Productions and JCP Talent Agency are my biggest accomplishments. We started out just providing line dance instructors for parties, but now we’ve become a one stop shop for all things dance – specifically in the country music industry. Everything about creating it seemed hard at first. Some days are still really hard …but the good always outweighs the bad. I love it so much. My dancers are the true treasure here though. They are absolutely what sets us a part from others most. JCP has been around for the better part of 17 years. We are known for our professionalism and elite level dancers. We are incredibly strategic about anyone on our team. As an owner I have made it my mission to only have dancers that do the job better than I would do it.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
As a Christian I am a very spiritual person. My relationship with God started as a little girl. I prayed about literally everything. Still do. A healthy mind, body and spirit are extremely important to me. It impacts how I show up in the world everyday.
So I find myself leaning toward podcasts that are educating me in these areas:
Spiritual: Candace Cameron Bure Podcasts & Tara Lee Cobble, the Bible Recap.
Body/Healthy life: podcast called In Kristin We Brust
and for the Mind, I think it’s important to have things that are light hearted that I can relate to. Things that can make me easily laugh and enjoy without too much focus so I usually listen to the Bobby Bones radio show in the mornings.

Lastly, there is a book that was incredibly impactful when I was on my self discovery and finding my purpose in life and business. It was by Joanna Gaines called “The Stories We Tell”
Just read it, you won’t regret it.
