Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamoneka Wilson

Hi Lamoneka, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a single mom of three beautiful kids. I needed more. I wanted more. I’ve been on my own since I was 17 years oldand I’ve always worked for someone else. They get to control the money I make. I didn’t like that. When Covid started I began feeling lonely, depressed and just like all I did was look at a computer screen day in and day out. It was causing headaches and I began realizing I wanted more. I prayed for direction on what I needed to do. I ended up getting laid off a couple weeks later. I was disappointed because I preferred it on my own terms but I began feeling as though I finally got my chance. I had no idea I would become a nail technician I had been in the medical field for years. Now what I did know is I had goals of being my own boss. Building a legacy and generational wealth for my children. I had no idea what I was going to do. Never really had a nitch for anything. So I began developing a plan. I woke up one morning and was just like I’m do this! I’m going to nail school! I applied for Georgia career institute. I had 8 months of night classes and didn’t have help with the kids. It was a lot but I began seeing the love I had for the creativity of it all. How to apply acrylic, etc. it wasn’t just the skill for me , it was how it made people feel. The reactions of my clients was so fulfilling. I’ve always loved making others feel good about themselves. So that really made me say I’m doing this. I began practicing and practicing while writing my business plan. I finished school in October of 2023. I began being a full time nail technician January of 2024. The first couple months were very discouraging. I didn’t get but 1 client. I felt defeated. This had to work. I had invested everything I had into nail school and into my business. I just continued to trust the process and trust that god was going open the doors for me. I continued to market myself on every platform I could. In march of 2024 Clients began booking. By the end of 2024. I have had over 120 clients. I’ve been able to build relationships with my clients. It’s been an amazing feeling to help make someone beautiful for their wedding, birthday, anniversary or just because. The goal for me is my very own nail salon. I don’t just want 1 I want many nail salons. I’m working on creating my own nail
Products from acrylic powders, gel polish, monomer, etc. Soon I’ll go back to school to be a nail instructor. We need more teachers that care. That know the craft and can help make others successful. The end goal for me is a nail academy in TN. What I experienced in nail school is NOT something I feel should be experienced for upcoming techs and artists. I want to give something good and different to the nail and beauty industry. It’s time to put my stamp on the nail and beauty industry.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Struggles have been financially draining at times. You need products to provide the service. You need clients to have the financial resources to buy the products. It become tough when it slows down and you not receiving the cash flow needed. Also, knowing how to really market yourself and your business. It’s an everyday job. It can become overwhelming. Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed Nail Technician in Nashville. I specialize in Nail enchantments and Nail art. I am known for my nail work and my great customer service my clients are always bragging about.

I am most proud of my strength. This journey hasn’t been easy and it’s been times I’ve wanted to give up but my strength I keep pushing. I have accomplished everything I want yet. But my strength is going to get me there.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to connect with people. Anybody can have good nail work but you need people skills, A skill for knowing to make a person feel heard. Nail techs are more than just for nails. We are therapist, prayer warriors, friends, etc. it’s the clients time to unwind. We are their peace place. I give that to my clients. That’s what sets my apart.
