Meet Jenna Jane of Downtown Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Jane

Hi Jenna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Jenna Jane, I have been involved with music as long as I can remember, I grew up in it. Music was definitely an outlet for me, especially after the loss of my mother at a young age. My father was a drummer, and my uncle is still actively playing bass in his band. They really were the ones that pushed me to sing and then start learning other instruments. My dad bought me my first acoustic guitar when I was 12 years old. While I got help from my musical influences around me, I was determined to be self-taught. I had my dad drive me to Walmart and I picked up a poster that had pretty much every guitar chord on it. So, every day after school I was in my room learning 3 new chords every single night. The rest is history. As soon as I had enough music to perform a whole set, I was in front of people playing shows. I grew up in the little town of Oxford, WI. Population maybe 500? Through my high-school years while I was involved with band and choir, I was also out there playing shows on the weekends. I got made fun of for being a band and choir nerd because sports weren’t my thing, but suddenly I was a lot cooler when my peers found out my band at the time was opening for national acts. After graduation I continued to stay in Wisconsin, the band broke up and I went into the work force, working for dealerships actually, because I guess music isn’t a “real” job to some folk. Eventually I couldn’t take it anymore, I NEEDED to be back playing, and I was determined to make a career out of it. It took a lot of work your day job and then go pour your heart out on stage until midnight or later before I could make the full jump. And the scariest part was that I was alone. I didn’t have a band anymore – I was flying solo. I played probably about 200 shows my first year as a solo artist. I had to get my name and my songs out there. Finally, it felt like things were paying off and I was off and running as a full-time artist. I started venturing out of Wisconsin with my shows. I did the surrounding states, grew my fanbase, and then decided it was time to start releasing my own music. My first album came out in 2022, the same year I signed with a Nashville booking agency and it has been an amazing ride ever since. I get to travel to places I never thought I’d see, opened for some of my favorite artists, released more music, and really discovered who I am as an artist. While the ride isn’t always smooth, I finally landed exactly where I am meant to be, Nashville, TN.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Pursuing a dream like this looks glamorous, but it’s not all glitter and gold. The part they don’t tell you about is all of the “No” you’re going to hear and the fact that life happens. It’s easy to get discouraged, in the music industry no one is handing you a book with all the rules. It’s all over the place. There’s no right or wrong way to pursue it as a career, you just have to put in the work and be yourself. Being an artist is being authentic, no matter what people think of you, just keep being you. I learned over the 15 years of playing music that you can’t put your career on pause when obstacles are thrown your way, use the pain and turn it into power. Be vulnerable and raw with your audience, because I can assure you that there is someone out there that you can help and relate to no matter the struggle. And to me, music is healing.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a country/rock music artist. I am primarily a vocalist and acoustic guitarist. I’m also a songwriter and a storyteller. I love to write original music about real life things that others can relate to. Almost every song of mine has a story and a reason why it was written. I am most proud of how much I have grown as an artist, especially over the last 3 years of playing in Nashville. I really found who I am as an artist. Sure, it’s fun to brag about trophies on walls and all the big rigs you’ve bumped elbows with, but at the end of the day just being proud of how far I’ve come is the true win. I think what sets me apart of others is that I’m not afraid to be myself, whether it comes across in my heavy country sound or with my bright red hair, I want to be unique and I don’t want to be like anyone else.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
You can find me on all of these social handles or on my website. I’d love to hear from you.
