Hi Elyse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had the heart of an entrepreneur, driven by a passion for creating meaningful experiences and helping others. My journey began in 2014 when I launched Love Skin Nashville as a solo esthetician. A year later, I rebranded as Spa Haus Nashville, moved into a small house, and hired my first employees. As we continued to grow, we outgrew the space, moved across the street, and officially became Spa Haus Nashville. COVID hit in 2021 and those were some dark times, however, I knew I needed to come back stronger than ever. Instead of feeling down about it all – I decided to do an expansion yet again. What started as a one-person operation has since evolved into a thriving business with a team of over 20, fueled by passion of our craft, love, and a deep commitment to caring for our clients.

But it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. Growing a business while maintaining balance has been a significant learning curve. I’ve faced burnout and had to navigate how to prioritize not just my work but also my health, happiness, and personal life. These challenges have shaped me as a business owner and inspired me to take my experiences beyond Spa Haus.

In 2024, I launched two new ventures: Gras Haus, a boutique dispensary focused on herbal remedies and tailored health experiences, and 7 Figure Spa Owner, a coaching and consulting business for spa professionals. Through these, I aim to empower others to build successful businesses without sacrificing their well-being.

My journey has taught me that success is about more than numbers. It’s about creating something meaningful for both my team and our clients. Whether it’s the tranquility of the Himalayan salt relaxation room at Spa Haus or personalized wellness advice at Gras Haus, my goal remains the same: to help people feel their best, inside and out.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely had its challenges, but those experiences have shaped both me personally and my business. One of the hardest parts was learning how to navigate the growing pains of expansion—managing a team, scaling operations, and maintaining the high-quality experience I envisioned for my clients. Each stage of growth brought new hurdles, from hiring the right people to finding balance between work and personal life.

Burnout was a real struggle at times, especially in the early years when I was juggling everything myself. As a small business owner, it always comes back to you stepping in as needed. It took time and hard lessons to understand that prioritizing my health and happiness was just as important as the success of the business. To be honest, it is still something I struggle with balancing today. Those moments of stress and exhaustion were tough, but they also gave me the insight and resilience to keep moving forward.

While it hasn’t always been easy, the challenges have been incredibly rewarding. They’ve given me the perspective to not only grow my businesses but also help others do the same, with a focus on balance and sustainability. Every struggle has been an opportunity to refine my vision and create something that truly matters. I keep reminding myself that I am human and we are all just doing the best we can do….and that is all that matters.

We’ve been impressed with Spa Haus Nashville, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I owe so much of my success to the wonderful people who have supported and inspired me along the way. My parents have been my biggest influences and cheerleaders. My dad, who moved to the U.S. from Germany and became an amazing entrepreneur, inspires me every day to chase my dreams, work hard, and treat my clients and employees with respect and care. Watching his dedication and success has been a constant reminder of what’s possible with perseverance and integrity.

My mom is my rock and my best friend. She’s been there for me through every step of this journey, offering unwavering support and encouragement. It was actually my mom who unknowingly set me on this path—she took me to get a facial when I was in high school, and I had my “a-ha” moment. I knew then and there that I wanted to open my own spa, and she’s been by my side ever since.

I also want to recognize the incredible team members I’ve had along the way. Every person who has been part of Spa Haus has left their mark on the business and contributed to its success. Their hard work, passion, and dedication to our clients are what make Spa Haus special. From our front desk coordinators to our estheticians and massage therapists, each person has played a crucial role in creating the welcoming, supportive environment we’re known for. I’m incredibly grateful for the energy and heart they bring to work every day.

Lastly, I’m deeply thankful for my network of fellow spa owners and small business friends. Their advice, encouragement, and shared experiences have been invaluable in navigating the challenges and joys of this industry. It’s a unique journey, and having people who truly understand it has made all the difference.
