Rising Stars: Meet Brandon Lorenzo of Airdrie Alberta Canada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Lorenzo

Hi Brandon , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out at a young age singing songs I would hear in church. My parents who didn’t know much about music, heard me sing and put me in the Royal conservatory of music where I was classically trained in Opera. I grew up singing that until about the age of 12. I always had a profound love of Country music thanks to my grandparents, When I moved to Airdrie alot of my friends listened to it and told me that my voice would suit it well. I decided to sing a country song for a school talent show, and the rest is history. I have been Pursuing country music as a career for the last 10 years and have loved every minute of it. It is very interesting for me, because I am the only Country singer from Filipino heritage in the Canadian Country Music Scene. In my career ive had many highlights playing on some big stages such as Canadian Finals Rodeo, Country Thunder, and Big Valley Jamboree to name a few. Ive also been extremely fortunate to get to open for some great names in Country Music such as Randy Houser, Brett Kissel, George Canyon, Doc Walker Etc.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a Filipino country singer at first, it was difficult for me. There were moments where I experienced (and still do) racism. Simply because I was told I could never be a country singer or didnt belong in this industry because I didnt “look” like your typical country singer. I find that now that time has gone on, and there has been success for my career, these moments have faded. However, my favourite quote from Garth Brooks is “there are always going to be those that say it was simply given to you and not earned despite all your hard work.”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I take pride in my music. One of the most satisfying things for me as an artist has always been putting out new music for fans. Something about writing a song from a simple one line idea to something magical. Then, taking that song into studio and building the different instruments, to the final product. Something that sets me a part from others is I am very influenced by the sound of 90’s country. I try to incorporate this into my music while still having lots of control and abilities due to my classical training. Ive been extremely fortunate to have 5 of my singles be the # 1 song in Canada on the Independent Canadian country music radio charts. It just feels so great when you realize that others are loving what you make just as much as you love making it.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Country music I find is always changing. Within this industry we have seen a big shift from the older country. music sound to a newer “Pop country” style of music. However, All things come back into style and I feel that with some amazing artists and some of my influences, 90’s country music is making a HUGE comeback. Eventually, within the next few years it will be full blown 90’s sound for country just like it was before.
