Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Abarca
Hi Jesus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
when i was a kid my dad was a huge fan of the tattoo scene, he would often take me to his appointments and consultations so i loved looking through their flash seeing all the different ways they would make the same imagery. He would collect lowrider magazines and tattoo times magazines so i would fill most of my time thinking and looking throught these magazines. Eventually, me and my cousin would draw looney tunes for fun in a way to compete with eachother, I went into middle school drawing roses and love notes for other people for money. After my senior year in high school i decided that i wanted to become a tattoo artist while i was drawing in english class.
after that life got weird and i started working as an electrician and fell off my plans after getting discouraged by my self LOL. After 2 year working constructions i started learning how to draw and spent my breaks and lunch times drawing as much as i could. Around 2021 i freed my self and met someone that really believed that in me and showed me a lot of support and decided to focus on what i really wanted to do so we bought courses and I learned to draw, learned about bloodborne pathogens, cross contamination rules, and tattoo history.
once i felt ready i looked for an apprenticeship. After a failed attempt and getting fired for not making the shop enough money, i looked to a guy who had done most of my tattoos and asked for advice .
2 years later here i am almost a year as a licensed tattoo artist. i couldn’t have had it any other way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly i cant say its been hard. After the first apprenticeship shenanigans, my second mentor Ryanted Duarte helped me out so much when i looked for advice after losing my first apprenticeship. He is a man who wants nothing but the best for the people who surround him, super selfless guy. Once he took me in it was blessings on blessings. I couldnt thank him enough. If anything spending alot of time procrastinating took time out of actually getting stuff done.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Im tattoo artist i don’t specialize on a specific style just love tattooing so ill tattoo everything BUT water color and ignorant styles lol. My Favorite styles are American traditional, japanese traditional, chicano lettering, caligrafiti, black and grey, and black work (the creepy kind). i love skulls, cholos, eagles, snakes, daggers , panthers, cool stuff you know! Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
