Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Lane
Hi Brittany , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! It’s been quite the ride. I moved to Nashville in 2011 to pursue music as an artist and songwriter, building my project LUX over the years. Music has always been my main focus, and I’ve stayed active in the local songwriting scene. Alongside that, I’ve always had a love for photography. With the rise of social media, it became a useful tool for my artist brand, and I began to explore photography more seriously.
In 2020, when COVID hit, both my husband (a drummer) and I lost all our creative work. With the sudden free time, I stepped in as a second shooter for a friend doing small COVID weddings. I was completely untrained, but she quickly saw I had a good “eye” for it and began mentoring me. I dove in, investing in my first camera, shooting for friends, and developing my skills.
By 2021, word of mouth took off, and I officially launched Brittany Lane Photography. Since then, my photography business has become a full-time venture, but I still split my time between music and photography. Both are creative outlets that fuel me in different ways, and I’m grateful to be able to balance both passions here in Nashville.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business from the ground up is definitely exciting, but it can also be overwhelming as well. There were tons of late nights spent editing or figuring out how to grow, and I made plenty of mistakes early on. But honestly, that’s all part of it—trial and error, staying persistent, and just learning as you go.
Finding a work-life balance has been one of the tougher challenges. I love everything I’m doing and could easily work non-stop if I let myself. So, I’ve had to get really disciplined with my time to make sure I don’t burn out.
Another challenge has been standing out in such a crowded market. It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others, but I’ve learned to just focus on my own style and trust in word-of-mouth to help get my name out there. It’s been a lot of hard work, but honestly, both music and photography are totally worth it. I’m just grateful every day to be making a living doing what I love.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a songwriter and vocalist under my artist project LUX, where I specialize in EDM toplines and vocals. I write and sing for DJs all over the world, and I’m most known for my collaborations with French DJ Kosling and my song “Why Do I” with Australian DJ duo Nervo. I’ve been part of multiple songs that have accumulated millions of streams across various platforms, which is definitely something I’m proud of.
On the photography side, I’m known for my creative eye in lifestyle photography. I love capturing people’s personalities and helping that shine through on camera. It’s all about telling a story with the photos and making sure the essence of who someone is comes across, whether it’s for personal branding or just capturing a special moment. Over time, I’ve developed a niche in helping people build their personal brands through social media photos that really reflect their vibe.
What sets me apart is that both music and photography are such personal and creative outlets for me. I think that passion and attention to detail is what really shines through in the work I do. Whether I’m writing a song or snapping a photo, I want people to feel something real, something authentic. I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to merge both worlds and create something that’s truly mine.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
First, the power of persistence. Whether in music or photography, there will always be challenges, setbacks, and times when things don’t seem to be moving forward. But the most important thing is to keep pushing, even when it feels tough. Every mistake or roadblock is just an opportunity to learn and grow.
Second, finding balance has been key. Between music, photography, family, and friends, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle. But I’ve learned that taking care of myself—mentally and physically—is just as important as the work itself. Without balance, nothing else thrives.
Lastly, staying true to my beliefs has been huge. Whether it’s in the music I create or the photos I capture, authenticity is everything. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others, especially in a crowded space, but I’ve found that focusing on what makes me unique and trusting my instincts is what sets me apart. It’s not about fitting into a mold; it’s about embracing what makes you, you.
