Daily Inspiration: Meet Hannah Burrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Burrell

Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Sterling Photography about a year ago. I have always loved photography. I used to always take pictures of my sister growing up. I took digital arts and design in high school and I absolutely loved the section where we did photography. In college, I took photojournalism for two semesters as well as interned for a photographer my last semester of college, which I learned so much from. After that, I decided I wanted to make it happen. I just love seeing the beauty around me and getting to capture it. So I created my website and social media accounts and started to network and get my name out there. Although it is still growing, I am slowly but surely getting Sterling Photography where I want it to be. It is exciting to see what will come of this year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been a few struggles along the way such as not receiving many clients right away. It can be a challenge to get started and get your name out there, but it has been picking up slowly. It definitely takes time, so you just need to remember to do everything that could be done and then wait to see what happens.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mostly do engagement, family/pregnancy announcement, and senior sessions. Engagement sessions are a favorite of mine. I love getting to capture the love the couple has for one another and their excitement for the season of life they are in. I am most proud of a one engagement session I had that allowed me to be creative with it. I still love looking back at those photos. I love having bright, clean photos with a little bit of warmth to them. I’m a fan of colors and love when photos are bright and cheerful. I have been a second shooter for weddings as well which has helped me learn more from other photographers and helped me network with many people. Those weddings are always such a fun time!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Within the next five years, I hope to be doing photography full time. I would like to gain more expertise of running my own photography business that will also help grow my clientele. Most of my clients are in the Nashville area currently but I also do work in Chattanooga. A goal of mine is to travel more for sessions. Having a consistent look within my photos is something I hope to continue even if it changes slightly, adjusting style when needed. Finding my own voice for my brand is a big thing as well, though it can be hard to do as I am still fairly new, but I am finding it more and more everyday.
