Today we’d like to introduce you to Hugo Medina.
Hi Hugo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got started when i was about 16, i was looking for different side hustles to start to get some cashflow in, because i was tired of working for people. I needed to get a car so i hopped on marketplace and saw a volvo that was only $600, which piqued my interest. So, i started searching up about flipping cars, and i saw it was good profit so i decided to go and buy the car. I had to become mechanically inclined to fix it, watched a bunch of YouTube and 3 weeks later it was up and running and cleaned it up from the inside and sold it for $1800. Then i saw a dodge listed lower than its value so i bought it and fixed it up and cleaned it up and sticked with it for a while. After doing some research on buying cars i figured out that you could only buy and sell a car up to 5 times in Tennessee legally. After finding that out i thought to myself that i needed something that i could repeat and didn’t require too much investment, which was cleaning the cars. I started doing some research and saw that people would make businesses out of cleaning cars, so i decided to start my own. I bought my equipment, did a bunch of research, created a website, and started actively trying to get customers. after my first 7 customers i decided that this was profitable enough to go fully mobile since i had saved money from being a musician and working at burger king, so i bought a van. And now I’m mobile car detailing business, trying to collaborate with other local businesses, and looking to grow my clientele even further.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I’ve grown to be an adaptable man so that’s just fine. One of the main struggles was and still is juggling school and the mobile car detailing business. i would get requests to do jobs in the morning, but i can’t because i am still in school, and sometimes that results in losing customers. Another struggle was figuring out how to make a website and making it rank on the first page for many cities, which i am still working on. Another struggle was having to sometimes find people with licenses drive me to the job and help me, because i didn’t have a license to drive alone, which ate into my profit.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Siva Detailing?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I don’t see mobile car detailing disappearing, but i feel like it will become more saturated. Mobile car detailing is a pretty easy business to break into given that you don’t need to big of an initial investment and mainly from there on out it is just time and elbow grease. I feel like social media will be an even more important channel of marketing than it is now not only for car detailing but for everything. But car detailing will still be around since people dirtying their cars is inevitable, and sometimes cleaning your own car isn’t worth your time, which is what Siva Detailing is here.
