Conversations with Katie Warren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Warren

Hi Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Nashville, I’ve spent 15 years in the hairstyling industry, but my love for the craft truly blossomed after a few years working in the Nashville music business. Hairstyling became my creative outlet—an opportunity to help people feel seen and confident while expressing their individuality. Every client is a new canvas, and I’m honored to be part of their transformation. Last year, I decided to take the plunge and go into business for myself, alongside a few other talented stylists I’ve had the pleasure of working with for years. I’m now proud to call C&O Hair Collective in Germantown, my salon home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding a salon home that’s a fit for both you and your clients can be a challenge. I’m fortunate to have found some great places to cultivate my craft, that fit my needs. Also, maintaining boundaries is hard when you are your own business, but I believe it’s crucial for creating a balanced, fulfilling experience for both myself and those I serve. It’s a lessons I learned the hard way, but I am better for it!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an independent hairstylist, I specialize in creating lived-in cuts and colors that make a bold statement while keeping things low-maintenance. I have a deep love for creating a whole aesthetic for someone using the tools at my disposal. I believe a salon visit should be fun, comfortable, and full of good vibes, so I aim to make every appointment a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Open communication is key to me—I’m all about being real with my clients and fostering a space where you can feel heard, valued, and confident.

Our beautiful space in Germantown is kind of an oasis. It’s been instrumental in helping me to foster the feeling I want for my clients to have when they come to spend their time with me!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I went into business for myself last year, and as a creative, it’s been both exciting and scary. The payoff has been worth it, but it’s definitely a journey that requires discipline. I’m lucky to love learning new things, because I find myself constantly discovering more about myself and how to pivot my work in new directions. Every day brings something new, and that keeps me inspired and growing.
