Life & Work with Paulina Jayne of Nashville, TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Jayne

Paulina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was thirteen years old when I signed my first management deal and went from playing a live show in a small bar to opening for Sheryl Crow at an amphitheater. I made trips to Nashville every month in high school to write with hitmakers, JT Harding, Danny Orton, Shane McAnally and Bonnie Baker. Those experiences landed me here, where I attended Belmont University and started a successful artist management company. I’ve had the honor of playing all kinds of shows from Live Nation Festivals to the Bridgestone Arena with the Country Music Hall of Fame to opening slots for Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, and the list goes on. All of these experiences and opportunities have been a result of hard work and wonderful people along the way. Now, I perform my songs all over the country playing all kinds of shows, from festivals to songwriting experiences to backyards to the Bluebird Cafe, and I get to write with hitmakers to put out songs I really believe in. And if that’s not cool enough, I even get to produce these songs alongside some of my musical heroes, like Mike Hicks.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the music industry has a way of making the seemingly smooth pretty unpredictable! And 2020 was certainly that. All of us songwriters and artists took a hit that year, as I know everyone did. It was projected to be my biggest year yet, with nearly 100 tour dates and lots of great opening slots. Some of the cancellations even bled into 2021 and crazy enough, 2022. More importantly, I lost one of my best friends in 2020 and that really had an impact on my heart. I’m grateful for the time at home to process that experience. My career trajectory looked similar and yet vastly different from a heart-perspective after that period of time. Everything I do now I do with even more intention than before. My heart is for God and what He has for me. My desire is to do my best to glorify the name of Jesus in spite of my own inequities and meet people right where they are, extending the same grace to them that I undeservingly receive every day. I would not trade a single revelation over of those couple years for the things I thought I was going to gain. What I have now is priceless and will hopefully leave a lasting legacy way more than just selling another song.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Funny enough, I was playing a song before Keith Urban and Vince Gill one night at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on behalf of the Country Music Hall of Fame. After the fact, I went into one of the dressing rooms to say hi to my friends, Tanya and Michael of the War and Treaty, and Mr. Ronnie Dunn from Brooks and Dunn was in the room. He said, “there is Dolly Parton Junior!” as he pointed to me across the room. What a compelling moment that was. As a little chick who works her tail off and just loves what she gets to do, I was both floored and flattered. So, I may not be as gifted on top as miss Dolly, but I’ve got the big hair down…and the big dreams! I suppose the crazy 80s teasing probably sets me apart! Lol

I write singer-songwriter country songs telling stories about the nitty-gritty parts of life that always point back to hope. I play all kinds of instruments from acoustic guitar to piano to electric guitar to mandolin to bass and every once in a while I *think* I can play the drums! I love to produce music in my home studio, and I’ve recently embarked on producing my own songs that will be coming out this calendar year (hooray!)!

I love to perform; I love to play; I love to sing; I love to entertain. I love to include the crowd in whatever magic is happening on stage. There is nothing quite as special as the artist-crowd dynamic. It is almost as though you can feel the stories in the room, and there is just an unspoken connection to each other because of it, even though we are all strangers.

What matters most to you? Why?
I suppose if I really tried to break it down simply, the things that matter to me most are: God, family and friends, conversations with strangers, continually learning, dreams coming to fruition and being a completely imperfect and flawed “carrier of hope,” – some may call it an undying optimist! People deeply matter to me. I hope to make people feel loved and seen. This is always my main goal whether I just finished playing a show or I’m standing in line at the grocery store. There is nothing more special than someone taking the time to wait in a meet-and-greet line to shake your hand and say hello. What a privilege it is to be the person who gets to shake those hands. I just deeply value that time and cherish it.
