Life & Work with Steve Scilasi of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Scilasi

Hi Steve, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
More than anything else, getting to where I am now has been a process of being open to new experiences and meeting people in the creative industry. You can do all the research you want, but every city and every community is different, and people who are active on the ground level know the ins and outs in a unique way that you only learn by being involved. One conversation can lead to a tip about a casting, for example, that now gives you a connection for future opportunities. It’s about keeping your eyes and ears open and being truly present in every conversation. That, and making the decision that I wasn’t going to wait for a big opportunity to start being the type of person that has the success I was after has been another key factor. Start producing content on a high level now and putting yourself out there, and the odds dramatically increase

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
First of all, there were a lot more skills I needed to acquire. There is a big difference, for example, between just having a certain look, and being able to convey emotion and a sense of natural ease. Everything from micro expressions in the face to subtle body language cues can make a major difference. I also found out that this industry is selective in ways I had never realized. Many times, casting directors are looking for something very specific. Being the right fit is often more important than how good you are, and it takes a great deal of resilience to keep bringing the same enthusiasm day in and day out. It brings you to the critical question- “Do I really enjoy what I’m doing, or do I just enjoy the idea of it?” I’m convinced everyone needs to confront this question in order to have the staying power that’s needed for success in any competitive industry

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a model/actor specializing in commercial, fashion, and fitness. I love the process of creating bold, impactful images, whether it’s collaborating with others or self producing- the ability to do both has helped set me apart and make me more versatile for working with various brands and projects.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Definitely road trips with my parents every summer. I still have my hat covered in pins from all the places we went. Memories of exploring the Native American regions of the southwest in particular have always stuck with me.
