Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Harris
Hi Jeremy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Earned a BFA from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, 1994. Began assisting pro photographers while building up my portfolio of band/musician portraits. Eventually began getting my own clients. Commercial, editorial, advertising. Simultaneously began working on a personal project photographing abandoned Asylums and State Schools.
Left San Francisco in 2008 to live in Brooklyn, NY. Continued my photography career there until 2015, when I was asked by my girlfriend (now wife), if I wanted to move with her to Nashville. I once again rebuilt my photography business, and my personal reputation, gaining local clients while still working for clients in San Francisco, and New York, have slowly built of a successful multi media business (photo + video) that caters to musicians, record labels, and a variety of corporate and commercial clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it was not particularly smooth. Moving to a smaller city where no one knew me was tough. In this town, reputation is everything, and it took me time to build that up. Make friends, build professional relationships.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Photographer/videographer. I specialize in photographing people on location for editorial, music and commercial clients.
I’m mostly known for my work in the music industry, and the artists who I’ve photographed over the years, as well as for my American Asylums personal project, which has been seen by people all over the world.
I’m most proud of the images I created working for Kerrang! Magazine between 2004 and 2016. I’m also proud of the fact that I’ve successfully added video to services to my business, having taught myself how to direct, shoot and edit video projects.
How do you define success?
To me, a feeling of success has come from the relationships I’ve created over the years with friends and clients. Which has allowed me to earn a good living in my chosen field. Which in turn has allowed me to follow other passions such as world travel, vinyl record collecting and DJing, cooking, and gardening.
