Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Slandzicki
Hi Madison, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started the beginning of Kailey Cakes out of my parents dining room in Nashville when I was in high school, after falling in love with baking as a young girl watching my neighbor bake beautiful cakes. I would bake cakes and treats in the evening and bring them to school the next day for my friends to sample. Fast forward to 2019 after college, I went to UT Knoxville and the Art Institute of Nashville for culinary school, I began dreaming of owning my own business. I was baking out of my parents home for friends and family and quickly realized I was outgrowning the space and wanted to sell to actual clients. My parents, boyfriend at the time (now husband), and I started doing some research and eventually landed on purchasing a catering company located in downtown Franklin to aquire a location, equipment and a preestablished start. We unfortunately purchased it in May of 2020, and as places were closing realized the way the catering company was structured wouldn’t survive the shutdowns involving COVID19. Thankfully my love of baking came to the rescue and we began selling small event cakes to keep the business running. Now almost 5 years later of being in the Franklin location I have built the business up and gained wonderful clients and am able to bake hundreds of treats a month for weddings, birthday, business events, baby showers, and a ton of other special events!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The beginning of opening Kailey Cakes was the toughest part just in the timing of how the world was. I spent a lot of really late nights crashing on the couch in my office for the first year to try to stay afloat. Owning your own business definitely is a lot of work, but I wouldn’t change it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Kailey Cakes is a bakery specializing in custom designed cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, dessert tables, and more! We are best known for our wedding cakes, birthday cakes and dessert tables. I feel like what mainly sets us apart is our attention to detail and truly trying to make the perfect cake for your event. I am proud that I have started this business from nothing and built it up to being a prefered cake vendor at many venues across the Nashville area. We create everything to custom order to prevent waste. I, Madison, am the only one who fully decorates every cake that goes out the door! I love being creative and creating something truly unique for every client. We offer delivery all across Nashville and Middle Tennessee and pickup at our storefront location.
What makes you happy?
My children! I have two beautiful kiddos, Oliver and Rory, and they are my world!
