Meet Charlie Hill of East Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Hill

Hi Charlie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Basically when I was a kid I didn’t really have much I was interested in or felt good at. Nothing felt like an opportunity for life long pursuit until I discovered music. It was school of rock with Jack black and a summer camp talent show when I was 11 that made me want to learn guitar. Ever since it’s been punk rock bands, indie rock, recording, playing as many shows as I can and these days country music. Though I still listen to and blend so many genres. It’s still the one thing that keeps calling me back since that summer as a kid. No looking back now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been tough. Starting with I’m a first generation musician and professional artist. So my parents didn’t really have the guidance for me or knew which direction to point me in. It’s taken a lot of trial and error and throwing myself into unfamiliar territory. A lot of imposter syndrome and self encouragement to keep going. Balancing jobs to stay a float and make time to keep playing. Networking and running your own business. And then come the creative blocks. But damn if you don’t just gotta keep going sometimes.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a songwriter and singer. I’m known as the guy who was probably singing the songs or wrote them. I love to write simple yet captivating melodies, ideally complex in their resolve but yearning and rewarding no matter what. I like to write songs that are different yet familiar. I’m known for doing that, and for just being a bright haired loud guy on stage. What I really love the most though is forming community. Enhancing friendships and connections with music. Since moving to Nashville I’ve had a lot of opportunity to do that through making bands, throwing house shows at my old place we call momo’s basement, and just being around. I’m most grateful for that.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m getting ready to release my next album. It’s a raw, stripped down live band record. I’m proud of it for how imperfect it is and how honest the songs are. I hope you’ll be on the lookout!
