Conversations with Natosha Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natosha Harris

Hi Natosha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Becoming an author was always one of my life goals—but becoming a publisher was never part of the plan. My writing journey began around 2015–2016 in Dallas, Texas, when I started blogging for a friend. When that blog eventually faded, I faced a decision: stop writing or create something of my own. I chose the latter, launching my own blog under the pseudonym A Mouthful.

In 2017, life brought new beginnings. I welcomed my daughter into the world and returned to my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. I kept my blog going and soon took a bold step forward—I decided to publish my first book. In 2018, I self-released My Love Journal, a deeply personal project that marked the start of my journey as an author.

The response was unexpected and overwhelming. Suddenly, people began reaching out for help with all kinds of writing needs—letters, business documents, résumés, and even college papers. Recognizing a growing demand for my skills, I launched A Mouthful Writing Services.

Then, in 2020, everything shifted. A client asked me to help them publish their book. That one request expanded my vision from writing services to full-scale publishing support. Before I knew it, I was guiding authors through editing, cover design, consulting, coaching, and publication. With that evolution, my business became A Mouthful Publishing Services.

From 2020 to now, in 2025, I’ve had the privilege of helping countless writers bring their stories to life. Yet, I never stopped pursuing my passion for writing. To date, I’ve authored five books:
• My Love Journal
• My Love Journal Too
• My Encouragement Journal
• My Encouragement Journal Too
• My Simple Guide to Book Publishing

My journey from blogger to author to publisher has been anything but expected—but every chapter has been worth it. Through A Mouthful Publishing Services, I don’t just publish books—I help writers share their voices, just as I learned to share my own.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Looking back on my journey, I wouldn’t say I’ve faced many hard obstacles—at least not beyond the natural challenges of becoming a business owner and entrepreneur. The steepest learning curves came with mastering marketing strategies, keeping up with accounting, and understanding the importance of customer service—because running a business isn’t just about what you offer; it’s about how you serve others.

However, in the very beginning, there were some hurdles. I had to teach myself the technical side of publishing—how to format a book properly, adjust margins to meet industry standards, and understand how page count affects cover dimensions. Designing book covers in Photoshop was another skill I had to learn from scratch, one that tested my patience but also sparked my creativity.

The road hasn’t been without its challenges, but each test became a lesson. Through trial and error, I’ve gained skills that not only helped me grow my business but also allowed me to better support my clients. For every challenge, there was growth—and for that, I’m truly grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I own and operate A Mouthful Publishing Services, where I help authors bring their stories to life. Alongside my publishing business, I also work as a Project Manager for an advertising company. Surprisingly, these two roles go hand in hand. Both require me to manage systems, timelines, and people—whether I’m scheduling meetings, hosting consultations, or providing updates to clients. Project management and publishing share a common thread: organization, communication, and a commitment to seeing a vision through from start to finish.

What I’m most proud of, though, is my personal growth. Over the years, I’ve developed a problem-solving mindset. When something goes wrong or I face a new challenge, my instinct is to dive in, learn what I need to, and find a solution. That willingness to tackle the unknown head-on is something I’ve worked hard to cultivate.

I believe that’s what sets me apart. Many people would fold under the pressure of constant challenges—but I face them with determination. I take the initiative to learn, adapt, and find resources that move me forward. But beyond my work ethic, I bring my authentic self into everything I do.

With me, what you see is what you get. I’m professional, but I’m also real. I believe that being genuine, especially in business, is powerful. It’s easy to get caught up in titles or formalities, but at the end of the day, real connections are built on honesty. And for me, every project—every client—is personal.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned early on is the power of networking. Connecting with people who not only believe in your vision but also want to see you succeed can be life-changing. But networking isn’t just about receiving—it’s about giving, too. It’s about being willing to support others the same way you hope to be supported. Finding that balance, while trusting your intuition about who you allow into your circle, is key.

Although I’ve never had an official mentor, I’ve been fortunate to have friends and family who are business owners and have generously poured their knowledge, advice, and encouragement into me. Their support has been priceless. Sometimes, success isn’t about having all the answers yourself—it’s about having people you can call on, lean on, and learn from.

In business and in life, wise counsel is everything. And I’m grateful for every conversation, every shared experience, and every piece of advice that has helped shape my journey.
