Conversations with Sage Autumn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage Autumn

Hi Sage, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Im a current junior at Belmont University studying songwriting and music business, in hopes of pursuing a country music career after college whether that be though songwriting, artistry, or working in the publishing business. I started writing songs when I was 12 years old while battling cancer in the hospital for 11 months, and this started the passion for writing. I have been playing piano since I was 5 and guitar for about 8 years now. I have been professionally singing since I was 10, and have been playing in gigs both band and solo for about 8 years as well. I am a country rock artist, with influences of Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, The Dixie Chicks, Adele, Sara Barellies, Alicia Keys, and more. I have since released a 7 song album, multiple singles, and a country rock EP and love recording music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Its been a rollercoaster for sure, but i believe that every no leads to a yes at some point in the future. I got into the school of my dreams with the best music business program which has been amazing, ive gotten a couple internships in the industry for different professions which has been amazing, I finally have a band I can rely on, etc. But Ive also had my fair share of rejection, missed opportunities, and personal struggles like battle cancer at a young age when I was just getting to a point of finding myself and who I was as a young girl. But this lead me to the love of songwriting, so it all happens for a reason.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Im going to add in my personal bio for this question:

Sage Autumn is a singer/songwriter and performer in Nashville. While majoring in songwriting and music business at Belmont University she is preparing to immerse herself in the country music scene post college. Sage is primarily a vocalist with proficient skill in piano, guitar and songwriting. Her first album “Youth” was released in 2021 and features songs she wrote and co-produced reflective of her experience . Sage’s latest singles “ Cold Country Woman,” “Heartbreaker,” and “Miss Never Do No Wrong” are the first releases on a 5 song EP, that was released on November 9th of last year. She believes that music is a healing and defining force in who she is today. As a cancer survivor, Sage credits writing songs in the hospital and teaching herself ukulele and guitar through treatments and recovery as the true beginning of her love for creating music. She knows there is always a light at the end of the tunnel fueled by passion and hard work.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My high school choir teacher Mr Medina was a big cheer leader for me and really pushed my vocal abilities

My piano teacher miss Rita showed me the ropes on how to use my brain in different ways and helped me with my own artist expression by letting me learn adele songs and sara barellies songs in my lessons instead of classical music lol

My parents have been the most supportive people. They let me live my life how ever I need to in order to reach my dreams and they are here for me no matter what I decide

My current producer Reid Sorel, he has believed in my vision and who I am as an artist by bringing my ideas to life in the studio

My college friends have been the best group to rely on and have my back through thick and thin. They constantly show up for me by coming to my shows around town and simply just listening to my new songs and giving feedback.
