Rising Stars: Meet Reginald Alexander of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Alexander

Reginald, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my photography journey back in 2011 in the most unexpected way. It all began with a simple photo of a peach taken on my old Blackberry Curve. After snapping the shot, I couldn’t help but think, “I should be a photographer.” At the time, I was living in Murfreesboro and hadn’t been accepted into MTSU as I’d planned, so I needed something to do with all my free time. That’s when I decided to borrow my dad’s Canon 20D (which, by the way, I still have to this day).

I started by taking pictures around the MTSU campus, and I even approached party promoters, asking if I could capture their parties. That’s how I began meeting people—and I didn’t stop there. I started offering free photo shoots to anyone I met, building my portfolio one shot at a time. Each session taught me something new: mastering natural lighting, perfecting composition, and learning how to direct people for the best poses.

That’s how I found my passion for fashion photography, which is now my main focus. Looking back, it’s amazing how a simple moment can turn into a lifelong pursuit.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been far from a smooth ride! There have been plenty of ups and downs—equipment getting stolen, hard drives crashing, and life throwing curveballs. The road to where I am now has definitely not been easy, but I’m incredibly grateful for every part of the journey and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. There have been moments when I’ve wanted to walk away from photography, to just set my camera down for good, but the artist in me can’t help but create. No matter what, I always find my way back to the lens.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I shoot a little bit of everything—weddings, fashion campaigns, creative concepts, artist branding, and product photography—but my true passion lies in fashion photography. There’s something about creating bold, edgy imagery that really speaks to me. I like to think of myself as a lighting specialist. I love shaping light in ways that turn ordinary scenes into jaw-dropping visuals—images that make you stop and take a second look.

What sets me apart is my signature creative lighting style, innovative sets, and distinct editing techniques. I want my photos to make you ask, *“How did he do that?”* Every shoot is an opportunity to push boundaries and explore new directions, ensuring my work never looks the same twice. But at the core of it all, I stay true to my unique lighting and editing style. I don’t believe my best work has been created yet—I’m always striving for that next level, that next breakthrough moment.

Any big plans?
I’m excited to step into the teaching space and begin sharing my knowledge with others. Whether through hosting classes, one-on-one sessions, or speaking on panels, my goal is to inspire and help fellow photographers grow their craft and business. I’m passionate about showing others how to create those stunning, impactful images that leave a lasting impression. I want to be a resource for photographers looking to take their skills to the next level and build a successful, sustainable career. The more I can help others grow, the more fulfilling this journey becomes!
