Inspiring Conversations with Justin Allman of Music City Vintage / Nameless Wellness Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Allman

Hi Justin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Justin Allman, but some people call me Jay. I was born and raised in South Nashville, TN, and I attended high school at Glencliff. I’ve always been a people person and enjoyed trying new experiences. I’ve been curious since childhood, and that curiosity continues to this day.

Before MCV Days

During my junior year of high school, I got into thrifting vintage snapback hats because of the popular song at the time, Snapbacks Back by Tyga. Back then, you couldn’t buy snapbacks at the mall, so the only way to get them was by thrifting. We found a community on Facebook and in the early days of Instagram, using hashtags and community pages to connect with people who shared the same interests.

As our passion grew, we expanded into clothes and Jordans as well. Eventually, my partner and I had way too many items crammed into our one-bedroom apartments. One day, we decided to sell our collection at the Flea Market since no one there was fully catering to our style and interests. We started doing this in 2015/16, connecting with individuals throughout the city. Finally, on December 8, 2018, we decided to open our storefront in East Nashville inside Gold Club Electric Tattoo—and we called it Music City Vintage.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Tornado Event

We’ve faced many obstacles throughout our journey. A little over a year after opening, our storefront was hit by a tornado on the morning of March 3, 2020. Luckily, no one was inside the building at the time, and we were okay. Our community came together to support us, helping recover items from the wreckage.

Shortly after, of course, COVID occurred, impacting the entire world. With the help of our community, we were able to reopen at our current storefront in December 2020.

There have been many more ups and downs over the six years we’ve been in business, but we continue moving forward. Nothing worth having is ever easy, but it’s all part of the journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Music City Vintage / Nameless Wellness Club?
I run two businesses that I’m very proud of—Music City Vintage and Nameless Wellness Club! These two businesses are completely different, but I’m deeply passionate about both.

Music City Vintage

Music City Vintage is a boutique shop in East Nashville specializing in curated vintage clothing, streetwear, sneakers, boots, and a variety of brands—some you may know and others you might discover for the first time! While we primarily focus on vintage clothing, all of our in-store items are also available for purchase online.

We collaborate with many local artists, businesses, and individuals to highlight and support creative projects. Giving back to the community is at the core of what we do. Our event center hosts various events, and we also offer the space for rent to others.

You can find us at 2503 Gallatin Ave, Nashville, TN 37206, open seven days a week. Shop with us in-store or online at musiccityvtg.com.

Nameless Wellness Club

In May 2024, we launched Nameless Wellness Club, a space for people to explore different activities that promote wellness—without the pressure of being an expert. Instead of focusing on just one thing, we wanted to create a club that offers a variety of experiences, welcoming amateurs and newcomers.

Since launching, we’ve hosted all kinds of events, including tennis, indoor climbing, beach volleyball, pickleball, spades, yoga, and more—once a week, every week. The beauty of Nameless is that it continues to evolve and grow.

We know not every event will appeal to everyone, and that’s okay! Our goal is to create a space where people can try new things, build community, and never have to do it alone.

Personal

A big goal of mine this year is to get more into marketing consulting & doing creative work for brands as well.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Staying curious and willing to learn have been the most important factors in my success. Without openness to new ideas and information, it’s easy to become stagnant and lose the drive to keep pushing forward.
