Hidden Gems: Meet Octavia Rose of Eighth Element

Today we’d like to introduce you to Octavia Rose

Hi Octavia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to skincare started 20 years ago when I myself got my first facial. I couldn’t believe it was a real job. One you could help people relax while treating or correcting skin concerns.
Living in rural Montana at the time there was really not any professional Aesthetic programs that I felt were worth my time. My husband and our family moved to the Nashville area in 2015. I immediately enrolled into school at Aveda Arts in Franklin, TN. Right after graduation I found myself lucky enough to work right down town Nashville in a gorgeous hotel day spa. I was there for 4 years, until I went to one of Nashvilles oldest and best day spas, I was there for 3 years. It was in that time when I was in a small, dark treatment room that I would day dream about having my own place. Working on skin has always my first love, and my second, is getting lost finding the beauty that is all around us. I knew when I was day dreaming about my own spa that I wanted nothing but rays of sunshine and copious amounts of natural light enveloping myself and my clients. Within that I wanted greenery, and things that not only lived, but helped with calming, and soothing the mind, body and spirit. Being surrounded by my mother’s plants growing up and being hopeful that somewhere in me I might have a green thumb I had to try it. And if I could create an environment where I could nurture plants and in turn help to ease someone’s mental load, and stress WHILE being able to focus on result driven relaxation with skincare, I wanted to try it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To say it’s been a cake walk isn’t reality. Anything that has your heart and soul poured into it will come setbacks and sacrifices. Especially when you’re a new business owner. There’s not really a manual for this type of thing. There is one thing you need to know about Robertson County. It’s the most down to earth, country town that is left on the map. Where everyone is truly salt of the earth people. Before I opened I was scared to death. Being an Aesthetician and going out on your own is a huge risk, one my family and I were willing to take. We talked with our kids and I remember telling my husband “we need to be prepared to eat rice and beans for the next year or two while I build my clientele”. Thankfully, the Lord had different plans for us. After 7 months I was turning away clients and closing my books to make sure my core clients had appointments they could look forward to getting. While my books may be “closed” I still am open to receiving new clients that want or need transformational skincare services.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Eighth Element, I’m on a mission to educate, empower and give my clients the proper elements to help them nurture their natural God given beauty.
My favorite part about my job is passing on my skincare knowledge to them. Everyone’s skin is drastically different. That is why having a skincare professional in your life is so important. The influencer you see on your social media is someone who has little-to-no skincare knowledge. Skincare isn’t a one size fits all. What products work for another person, could potentially have no business on your skin. Unless someone is touching, feeling, diving deep into lifestyle, and history with you, they have no business selling you a product on the internet.
I strive to ensure each of my clients leave feeling confident and with the proper tools to address their skincare goals.
My clients skincare goals are MY skincare goals for them. We’re a team and we work together.
I have coined the term ‘Result Driven Relaxation’ — the world is a heavy place, we all need a safe space to unwind and let our worries melt away. If I can let my clients experience this while giving them goal oriented, result driven services I have absolutely done my job.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Quite honestly the best thing I have found is finding the relationships that mean the most to me. The girlfriends who cheer for you on the sidelines, the ones obnoxiously holding those signs at the end of a marathon. Find those people. Pour into them, nurture them, and they will fill your heart.
