Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Gifford
Hi Laura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began singing as a child, but I never worked at it—just did it for fun. So, music came first. I spent several years getting my Audiology education—a course of study I fell into because of learning how sound travelled—again, intrigued by sound because of music.I completed part of my education in Nashville, and a short stint in England. So, the travel bug hit early as well. On the side, I was always singing, catering, organizing events, etc. on a small scale. I’ve always had such a love of seeing new places and introducing other people to new places that I began posting travel stories and planning trips for other people.
Being so interested in and involved with music, I began helping artists with brand management and booking. I was even producer on one album.
A lot of varied experiences all come back to my original love, which is music, coupled with my native skill sets, organization and communication.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No one‘s path is straight. There have, of course, been ups and downs. The biggest lessons that I have learned are about who to trust. Some years are great, and some years are reset years. That’s just how the road runs.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think what makes me successful in a variety of arenas is my ability to get to the root of what someone wants or needs and help them achieve it. In the audiology clinic, I arm people with the knowledge that they need and a treatment plan that’s individualized for them. For musicians, I help connect them with people and places that fit their brand and can further their career. (as well as fitting them with hearing protection, for the longevity of their career! ) When working for a hearing aid manufacturer, I helped other audiologists identify their target market, and how to best serve them. I educated a trained audiologist on how to best provide for their patients’ needs.
I live by the Zig Ziglar concept of “You can have everything in life you want if you just help enough other people get what they want.”.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I have been lucky to have many different opportunities. I’ve had opportunities to travel, scholarships for degrees, assistance with student loans, met great people who vastly expanded my network. But that kind of luck doesn’t help if you aren’t positioned to take advantage of those opportunities.
