Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Campbell
Hi Sadie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was the kid with the big feelings and the stage fright. The wallflower who was happy to sit in my room all day and practice on my dad’s old nylon stringed guitar. I grew up in the country, I would just get lost in songs.. those I was writing and listening to – I loved being able to escape through the music. I still love that.
To be honest, I don’t know how that little girl from rural British Columbia ended up being a full time musician, living in Nashville. I think it was just learning to say yes to all the unknown, scary, randomness and keep pulling that string of curiosity even when it feels impossible to keep going.
I recently independently released my debut album, Metamorphosis, and am so excited to put out more music this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My career has been like a gravelly, mountain, back road in the middle of a Canadian winter! Haha. I didn’t even move to Music City until I was in my early thirties, after taking a few breaks from music along the way actually. I’ve been signed and dropped and have had all the twists and turns and ups and downs along the way. It’s important to me to try and remember ‘why’ behind why I’m an artist on the daily. To connect to others, through song. It’s to vulnerably and honestly share my human experience through music. If I remember that, then the struggles don’t get to me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a songwriter, singer, and performance artist. I am very proud of my debut album I recently released called, Metamorphosis- a collection of songs I wrote during some extremely transformative years in my life. There are songs about navigating through anxiety, depression, wishing you had a second chance at life.. and songs about love and lightness – because that just felt like life to me! It’s mountains and valleys.. and I wanted this album to have songs to dance to, and songs to cry to – you can put in on while you’re on a road trip and feel all the vibes.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I moved around a lot as a kid so I definitely morphed between wallflower, nerdy church kid and rebel, with a little athlete sprinkled in there. Most of my childhood was spent living in a tiny (and I mean.. in the middle of no where, up a mountain kind of tiny) town called Pritchard, BC. Some of my friends rode horses and dirt bikes, some of them were youth leaders in the church youth group, some were goth, wanna be witches who loved grunge music, some were musicians. I felt the most at home in the little melting pot of it all.
