Check Out Ian Bennett’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Bennett

Hi Ian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Waverly, TN and began playing guitar after learning a few chords from my grandfather, a couple months before he passed away. I studied guitar and Music Business at Bethel University, where I met my beautiful wife Whitney. After school I was a lighting designer and stage band at The Dixie Performing Arts Center in Huntingdon, TN. My wife and I packed up from our home in West Tennessee and moved to Nashville in 2018. We didn’t really know many people in the industry here, so it was definitely a learning curve. But, in the last seven years, I’ve been able to see some beautiful parts of the country, I’ve backed legendary artists, and I’ve had the opportunity to be a session guitarist from time to time. All of those things were just dreams and hopes when I first moved to town.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been very fortunate to share my musical life with some incredible people. Ive had my share of struggles. But overall, this town is special. It’s one of those few places where everything you can dream of is just a day away. You play a one off gig with someone and suddenly you’re playing some insane shows.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, my name is Ian Bennett. I’m a guitarist/singer from Waverly, TN. I play and sing for The Handsome Hangovers and my own band. I primarily play a mix of Southern Rock and Blues, with a healthy dose of Classic Country music. But most people probably just know me as that one Luke Combs looking guy down on Broadway.

The thing that I’m most proud of are the people I’ve gotten to share the stage with. I’ve been blessed to played with some truly amazing singers and songwriters like Skyelor Anderson, Colton Parker, Minnie Desolene, Emily McGill, Alyssa Scott and so many others I’d never be able to name them. But, each and every artist I’ve played with has inspired me so much and made me the musician I am today.

I wouldn’t say that I’m any better or different than anyone else honestly. I just show up and try to do the absolute best job I can. Music is a vulnerable thing and the songwriters have really exposed themselves. So for me to not do the best job I can to help create an atmosphere for them would be a shame.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think my favorite things to surprise people with are magic tricks. It’s the stupidest nerdiest thing, but everyone loves them. Haha
