Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherry Chaise
Hi Cherry, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been singing since before I could talk, and lucked out with parents who didn’t panic when I said I wanted to be a rockstar. I’ve always made up songs, but I started writing more seriously in high school. I can’t say I was a prodigy in any sort of way, but everything I may cringe about now, made me a better musician. I truly believe embracing our silliest selves makes the most incredible things down the road. Cringe is the chrysalis for the butterfly. I started to really develop my sound in college and ended up over-zealous— I wrote in almost every genre I could. I specifically remember in a songwriting class my teacher said “you’re already this far and you still don’t know what genre you want to do?” And at that point, I kind of decided to be the world’s least marketable musician and make music in all the styles I loved. I started an EP series called “Bouquets” where every EP was named after a flower that I felt represented the genre influences in the songs. The first one is called “Snapdragon” and is influenced by indie rock. The second is a folk EP called “Lavender” and currently I’m working on some 80s inspired pop tracks. I recently released a song titled “Good Sport” which is an ode to 80s aerobics and my adolescent athletic induced asthma. About a year ago, I decided to change my name. It was tough letting go of the old me, but it has been so freeing becoming Cherry Chaise. I’m excited to see what she does next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been increasingly difficult as time goes on. You always have someone in your ear telling you there are people younger, more talented, and hungrier than you. I think that goes for anything you decide to do in life though. You never feel like you’re quite where you should be yet, and I think that’s just the human experience. For me— I think those feelings get compounded by my the chronic conditions, which are getting tougher to manage as I get older. Fighting industry norms and your own body at the same time feels like racing against a clock that’s always an hour ahead. You just can’t catch up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am very proud to have music featured on “Love is Blind” and Aside from my own music, I have written over 200 custom songs for people. I write for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, etc. I feel very proud to be picked to write for people’s special memories. I can take details from any special moment and make it into a song that lasts forever. I can put a memory on repeat, and that feels pretty much like magic to me.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The saying “everything will work out” is not because of talent and magic— it’s because of work.” YOU are the reason everything will work out, and human resilience is the actual magic.
