Life & Work with Victorio Mastroianni of Green Hills, Nashville, TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victorio Mastroianni

Hi Victorio, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve built my career one haircut at a time, chasing precision and trust across the United States. I began my career in 2016 in Florida, where I built a strong foundation in cutting and styling. After a few years, I moved to Nashville to be part of a salon opening, which gave me the opportunity to refine my skills and grow within the industry. It was there that I developed a true passion for precision cutting and education, which shaped my approach to hairdressing.

As my career progressed, I expanded my reach by working in multiple cities, including St. Joseph, Kansas City, Des Moines, and Nashville. This is where I developed my traveling stylist model, which allowed me to build and maintain relationships with clients across different locations. Eventually, I transitioned into business ownership in Nashville, where I now work in a private studio alongside color specialist Lindsay Beebe. This setup allows us to create a highly personalized experience, offering expert haircutting and color in one space.

Today, I’m based in Cincinnati and continue to see clients in Nashville and Columbus, always focused on providing tailored, high-quality haircuts that suit each client’s lifestyle. My journey has been about adaptability, growth, and building a strong connection with my clients, helping them feel confident and understood every step of the way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s what has made my journey so rewarding. Building a career as a traveling hairstylist comes with a lot of challenges—constantly managing different locations, maintaining relationships with clients in multiple cities, and making sure I’m always delivering a consistent experience no matter where I am.

There were times when I had to start over in new cities, building my clientele from the ground up, which was both exciting and overwhelming. Moving to different places also meant adapting to different markets, finding the right salon environments to work in, and balancing the logistics of travel. But through all of it, I’ve learned to trust the process, stay adaptable, and focus on what matters most—giving my clients great hair and a great experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a haircutting specialist with a focus on precision, movement, and creating shapes that truly complement my clients’ features and lifestyles. My work is all about customization—every haircut is tailored to enhance natural texture, work seamlessly with how someone wears their hair daily, and grow out beautifully over time.

One of the things that sets me apart is my approach to dry cutting. Hair is three things: length, density, and texture. Most haircuts—mainly done on wet hair—only focus on length. But cutting hair dry gives me the opportunity to address density and texture as well, allowing for a more intentional, personalized result. This method helps me create haircuts that move effortlessly, require less styling, and suit each client’s natural flow.

I also prioritize education, always refining my techniques to stay ahead of trends while maintaining a strong foundation in timeless cutting principles. My traveling stylist model gives me a unique perspective—I work in multiple cities, adapting to different clients, styles, and markets.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients. Many have followed me across different locations, which means the world to me. My goal is always to create a haircut that makes someone feel confident, understood, and excited about their hair.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me some invaluable lessons, both personally and professionally. One of the biggest lessons was the importance of adaptability. In an instant, everything changed, and I had to quickly adjust to new ways of working—finding creative ways to stay connected with clients, exploring alternative services, and adjusting to health protocols.

It also taught me the value of taking a step back and focusing on what truly matters. I realized how important it is to nurture relationships—not just with clients, but also in my personal life. The pandemic gave me the clarity to prioritize what I wanted long-term, which led me to move to the Midwest to create a life with my husband. The connections I’ve built, both personally and professionally, have been a source of strength during uncertain times, and it reinforced for me the significance of trust, balance, and community.

Lastly, I learned that there’s power in self-care and taking time to reset. While the hustle of the industry can often feel overwhelming, the pandemic reminded me that balance is crucial for long-term sustainability.
