Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Lewis

Matt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in small town Indiana, oldest of 4 boys. Sports, fitness, and a willingness to learn has also been an interwoven part of who I am at the core. The first of my family to attend college, I wanted to make the most of the opportunity I was presented with. I graduated in 2013 from Purdue University in Sport Sciences taking me in the world of healthcare via gym management and personal training.

Throughout my 10 year career in that world, I ascended in both my career and personal growth through successes, failures, mentors, and everything in between. I was recruited down here to Tennessee for a gym management position, where over the 3 years there, my career forever changed. The mentors, connections made, and autonomy opportunities on a entrepreneur level, not just management, made me want to start something up under my own name and brand to continue helping people not just locally but nationally.

In November 2023 I founded The Lewis Agency, a private health insurance group, nationally accredited and licensed to help clientele with finding appropriate, customized healthcare to protect themselves, their family, and their hard earned assets. My ultimate mission is to be an impactful asset to the community whether it being helping individuals/families find proper customized healthcare or assisting the new line of entrepreneurs build their own agencies utilizing the experiences, good & bad, I have already endured.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road however I believe triumphs in tough situations, failures … tons of them, and all that being in small business world entails is truly the best opportunity someone can go through. Our experiences and our learned skills are something no employer, no economy, or any other person/situation can ever take from us so the more skills we can learn, the more value we continue to compound forever in my opinion.

Like many others, my team and I back in Indiana had to learn to pivot efficiently & quickly through COVID which was nice learning opportunity looking back at that timeframe of my career. Now, running my own business again here in TN, I have several obstacles as a start from scratch business owner, same as any other; how to find leads, nurture them, make a profit, build a brand and all the in between. I believe, however, my past experiences/skills learned are helping guide me on a quicker trajectory in a new field of work than it would have starting here with no background which is why I’ll always be a promoter of asking people to continue learning and stacking skills/traits to better themselves and their communities.

I am also thankful for my wife and all the friendships I have created that have always supported me in my journey to pursue my passion.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
That the word of business will also change so you it is vital you continue to learn and adapt knowing change is inevitable.
