Exploring Life & Business with Jay Findlay of Antidote Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Findlay

Hi Jay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am the CEO and owner of Antidote Agency, LLC. After a 20-year career as a recording artist, I recognized the challenges emerging artists face in gaining exposure and financial stability. During my journey I not only learned how to be a performer but also created multiple spaces for artists to showcase their talent. This included a monthly artist showcase that I hosted for 4 years in Washington, DC. Motivated to address the many issues artists face, I established Antidote Agency in 2023 to provide resources and curate live shows that ensure artists are compensated for their performances. Our agency positions itself as an advocate for artists, aiming to support and promote their careers effectively.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since establishing Antidote Agency I have encountered several challenges in the mission to support emerging artists. Providing comprehensive support to artists requires substantial financial and human resources. Balancing these demands while ensuring quality services can be challenging. The music industry is highly competitive, making it difficult for new artists to stand out. In this business I strive to continually be innovate to help artists gain visibility. Securing consistent funding to pay artists fairly for live performances and projects is an ongoing challenge as well. Lastly, keeping up with rapid changes in music distribution and promotion requires continuous adaptation. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to empowering artists by providing essential resources and opportunities.

As you know, we’re big fans of Antidote Agency. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
With Antidote Agency we are dedicated to empowering emerging artists by providing essential resources and opportunities. We specialize in artist advocacy, focusing on curating live shows that ensure performers are compensated fairly. This passionate commitment to artist support distinguishes us from others in the industry. A notable example of our work is the “NextWave” artist showcase, presented in collaboration with Prime Records. This dynamic live event explores artists that are next up, offering these artists a platform to showcase their talents and connect with new fans who are looking to discover new music. I am most proud that we have built a strong reputation among both artists and fans by focusing on authentic artist advocacy and exceptional event experiences. Our commitment to ensuring artists are fairly compensated and supported has fostered trust and loyalty within the artistic community. For fans, we curate engaging live shows and events that not only showcase emerging talent but also create memorable experiences, enhancing our brand’s reputation among audiences. This dual focus on artist welfare and audience satisfaction continues to bring us new opportunities within the industry.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I experienced my first taste of performing at the age of eight during a summer camp talent show in Atlanta, GA. I led a lip-sync rendition of Kriss Kross’ hit single “Jump”, that had just been released earlier that year, captivating both my peers and camp counselors. The enthusiastic reactions from the audience ignited a passion for performance within me, laying the foundation for my current career in the music industry.
