Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Houston
Hi Sam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a Realtor, Regional Property Manager, and an Award Winning Actor, Director, and Writer. I got into Property Management while attending MTSU in 2006. I was looking for a job to where I would be off no later than 6pm in order to have play rehearsals for my Theater plays. Little did I know that I had found a career that I would be able to grow in. From there I worked my way up the ladder. During Covid I had decided that I really wanted to go into Real Estate, so that I could help people not just rent apartments, but also purchase homes once they were ready. Within my 1st full year of Real Estate I was one of the Top agents in my office and able to serve on the Agent Leadership Committee (ALC). In regards to acting, I got into this at the age of 5 years old. My mother used to write plays for our Church, and I believe subconsciously the dream of acting, and writing was instilled in me. I enjoy portraying someone outside of myself, and watching what I write on paper come to life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been some challenges along the way, in each one of my endeavors. In Property Management I felt that I had to work twice as hard as my peers in order to advance my career, because Property Management is a female dominant business. At times I felt as if I got looked over because of this, but I later realized that the problem was not, that it was a female dominant business. It was more so my addiction to alcohol. This really held me back in ways that I could not have imagined. Since my sobriety I have been able to see and think with a clearer mind, and know that I was only holding myself back. Sobriety has really changed me into becoming more of the man that I know God wants me to be. I hurt a lot of people during my addiction to alcohol, and being able to help just one person who is struggling with my testimony makes it all worth it. Alcoholism is a disease, and if you continue to fight it instead of getting help it can truly kill you. I lost one of my best friends to this disease, and I vow to myself and my family that I will never turn back to it. Since then I have truly seen my career blossom.
Challenges in Real Estate were different as when I started I had already began my sober journey. The biggest challenges were beginning my career. I had to establish clientele. Something I thought was going to be easy, but was definitely a much bigger challenge than I initially anticipated. However, during this time I was able to take advantage of training and education which later helped boost my career later down the line.
Lastly, my challenges with acting/writing came into a different light. What I thought would have been the hardest was definitely the easiest and vice-versa. I figured in the beginning it would be difficult to get people to come out for auditions. This was actual the less challenging thing in filming. The most challenging part was actually distribution. I was unaware of all the loop holes you have to go through in order to get a film on streaming platforms. However, I was able to place myself around the right people, and in the end every thing worked out the way it was supposed to.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Of course I love to Act, and write films. However, my career is what pays the bills. Being a Regional Property Manager and a Realtor has helped paved the way for me to enjoy my hobbies. I specialize in helping people buy, and sell real estate. I enjoy helping others get the best deal possible and guiding them through the process with my expertise. There is a lot that people outside of real estate do not know or maybe not understand so it is my duty to help them through the process. Being in Property Management gives me a leg up as well in this industry. I have many investors who purchase homes and rent them out that do not know the ends and out of Property Management. You have to be careful when you are a landlord, and be mindful of Fair Housing laws. I have 19 years of experience in Property Managment which really helps protect my landlords in Do’s and Dont’s. Because a lot of realtors do not have knowledge in Property Management, this helps make me unique in this field.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love working with people. If people want to connect/collaborate with me, it really is just as simple as reaching out. I enjoy helping others that are just getting into real estate, because there is enough business out here for everyone. I love to see people grow. In regards to support, the best support that I can receive is referrals or reviews. I strive to be the best that I can be for each of my clients, and always insure that I put their needs above my own. Word of mouth and client referrals is what helps my business out the most.
