Conversations with Erica McElroy, Carroll Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica McElroy, Carroll Moore

Erica McElroy, Carroll Moore, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We have both worked for haunted houses for a long time.

Erica- I started back when I was a kid. My elementary school was famous for the fall festival and haunted house they put on. I moved to Denver and worked for a large haunted house company for 14+ years. I traveled to haunts all over the country for them to train their actors and help the managers open their shows. That company is how I met Carroll.

Carroll- I worked at a Nashville legend, Monster Mountain. Once I parted ways there, I worked with my then business partner in building and running Scream Creek haunted attraction, Dark Decent Haunted attraction and Deathyard. I then moved over to Nashville Nightmare and Nashville Haunted hayride and Woods. The company Erica worked for bought into those two attractions. Once I left that company, I helped build a haunted with Epic Entertainment called Dark Horizon.

We met at a company wide meeting at a Haunted House in San Antonio.
Once COVID hit, we were back at square one. An opportunity to build a haunted house on some land presented itself. We jumped at the opportunity and decided to start Halloween Hollow.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The economy is definitely a challenge. The prices of wood and hardware are through the roof. However, Carroll has a not so secret talent in making it work anyway.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We have a creative team that is unmatched.
Everything at Halloween Hollow was built from the ground up. There was nothing on the property when we started. You start your journey by walking through a 25 foot pumpkin. We currently have an old mansion called Dark Raven, a full on life size video store called Video Slashback, a meat packing plant called Big Top Meats, a feline fortune teller, a corn maze, a Ghostbuster themed escape game and more.
This upcoming season will bring change. We are turning Big Top Meats into a Meltdown, Nuclear Nightmare and Big Top meats will become a fear zone. We are also adding a second corn maze to our 2025 season. We have a non scary corn maze already, but the second corn maze will be the opposite!
