Rising Stars: Meet Erick Watson of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick Watson

Hi Erick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Nashville, raised in on kings lane dr by my grandparents and uncle’s and aunties, my passion for art just kind of came naturally due to watching and teaching myself how to create things without writing them down, My drawings that I can remember was Bart Simpson on a surf board, that my older brother drew then I fell in love with it, from then own I would draw here and there as I got older, until High School where I the only one customizing Air Force 1s at 16 and customs dickie shirts , and pretty much anything people ask for, and friends and other high school students start rocking it, so I did that the whole time just really building my craft over the years, until I decided to paint on canvas,. I always wanted to be different or create things that you couldn’t just get everywhere, that’s what made me incorporate neons, and hidden gems inside my paintings, Two versions of a piece, and not just one style I wanted to give collectors all kinds of styles. I’m inspired by Basquiat, Warhol , King Saleden, and Woke, and Mobe, Troy Duff just to name a few. The process is an addiction to me to see my finish products and the process is my reward to myself, I might not have the most followers or likes on social media, but I have sold over 400 pieces or more til date, I OUT WORK THE LIKES AND VIEWS, I have sold my pieces all over the world, without the popularity, The relationships I’ve built over the years are more important to me than anything, and I want to say thank you to each and everyone whoever supported me and my journey rather your a collector or just shared my pieces or gave me an opportunity to present my art, I THANK YOU !!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No smooth ride, I’m talking about not knowing what to do , leave your job or whatever, it’s a constant grind, Specially when you think your art is not good enough, there where times that I was to insecure about my pieces, but if I didn’t ever make my art present “ then how would I know, I’ve got told No from galleries all over, But that made me work harder and perfect my lane and signature style.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My style is all kinds of mediums with a neon twist under certain lights, Im an artist, a designer, musician, i mainly specialize in my love for art and just creating period, Im self taught, im most proud of my kids , Jeanaiah, Emmanuel, Kymora , and the youngest Derrick, and the crazy part about it , there all artists and creative, without me forcing any of them. And my goal is to let them create freely with or without me, “ ITS DEFINITELY IN THE GENES, What sets me apart from others is that I’m an artist who shares other artists, I don’t hate if I like it I like it, and there are artists who are better than me , No doubt, but as creatives I think we should share more of each others art work, “ WE NEED MORE OF THAT” I’m the type of artist that shows love and I want everyone to have a shot at the best opportunities that come with being artist, if artists out there who need tips or how to get yourself out there and sell your work, I’m Open Arms

What matters most to you?
Being a father, and being able to create
