Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurin Floyd
Hi Laurin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in a small one stoplight town of Clio, South Carolina. I grew up training in dance and singing in my Dad’s country band. I got my first professional gig at 16 singing and dancing in a theme park in Myrtle Beach SC. I spent summers singing and dancing in other theme parks around the country and somehow finished college with a BFA degree in Dance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I was determined to Head to Nashville! I wanted to become a country artist who sang and danced. I got a show with the legendary Brenda Lee at the Opryland Theme park in Nashville.. I stayed at Opryland In the Country Music USA show for several years and it provided many opportunities. I danced in videos with Dolly Parton, Hank Williams Jr, and Dwight Yoakam on the CMA’s to name a few. I had the honor of singing on the Grand Ole Opry several times and was even featured as a dancer. I left Opryland and worked with Louise Mandrell, I Then toured with the Legendary Brenda Lee, and became a back up singer/dancer for the Shock n Ya’ll tour with Toby Keith. Performing on some of the biggest stages in the world including the CMA Awards, ACM awards, The Grand Ole Opry, The Super Bowl, the Thanksgiving halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys stadium, and a multitude of late night talk shows.
After touring, I got more involved in creating Choreography for Matt Davenport Productions. Creating original choreography for Theme parks such as Busch Gardens, Dollywood, and Hershey Park., Virgin Cruise Ships, National tours, Pageants, Artist Videos, and The General Jackson Showboat in Nashville,Tn
As a songwriter, I have two albums I have released independently. Make it through another day was released after I lost my husband to cancer. He was a musician that played with Toby Keith and Willie Nelson. through this healing journey, I have found the importance of getting to know yourself again and I wrote a second album called Good Grief. I explored finding the good in grief and it was also a healing project for me.
I have stayed in the Entertainment world for more than several decades as a Singer, Dancer, Choreographer! I recently left a secure job to explore how I can help other entertainers through my expertise in dance, stage movement, auditions, and even grief. I have also reconnected singing in a Band called the SouthBound Crows! GOD has brought me full circle.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have to chuckle at thinking anything is a smooth road. I am thankful NOW for the challenges because I have learned so much!!! In entertainment you have to have a thick skin and let all the different opinions about looks, talent, how many followers, comparison, and the list goes on to roll off your back. AND it’s hard! But I always tried to look at the positive. I have definitely had my share of disappointments. But the biggest struggle was allowing myself to let others make me feel small, unseen, and leading to challenges with self worth. Most of this I battled when I lost my Dad and my husband. Life changed and I had to stop and really get to know myself again. To have to feel strong all the time is a lot of pressure. I have learned we are uniquely made to share our gifts with others. Everyone has an opinion and that’s ok, but get to know yourself and listen to your gut that’s says it’s ok to be who you Are.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I guess I would say I specialize in creating choreography, singing, and motivating others in the entertainment field. I have had the opportunity to tour with legendary artist on the road as a performer, create original choreography for National touring shows, theme parks, Corporate events, Pageants, Cruise Ships and have experience in all aspects of production from creative concepts, auditions, casting, scheduling rehearsals, and working closely with scenic design, costumes, and technical team.
I am proud of the creative work I have created, but more important the people I have helped or inspired along the way.
I am so excited about a new venture I am creating with Independent artist, Original songs, and movement! Stay Tuned!
What matters most to you? Why?
God. My faith has gotten me through so much healing and finding myself again.
My husband and family that give unconditional love.
