Today we’d like to introduce you to Mr. Mayo
Hi Mr. , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Mr. Mayo is a collective of seasoned musicians and jazz fusion enthusiasts who met in the jam scene in Nashville, frequenting jams like the East Side Jam at Inglewood Lounge, Vinyl Tap, etc. Discovering their mutual fondness of the genre, the 4 decided to get together to play fusion music for fun. They rapidly developed a strong musical chemistry with one another and decided to form the band. Since their first show at the Cobra in East Nashville, Mr. Mayo has been face-melting audiences around East Nashville venues such as The Underdog and 5 Spot as well as debuting at Rudy’s Jazz Room earlier this year. They are currently recording their debut EP set to drop in September of this year entitled “Food For Thought.” The first single, to release on Cinco De Mayo entitled “Ponder” captures the gratuitous nature of the band’s dynamic and sound. Mr. Mayo is Kent Crawley (guitar), Matt Twaddle (keyboards), Leland Nelson (bass) and Jake Robinson (drums).
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The group has had a bit of a bumpy road, due to the very niche style of music they play on top of being full-time working musicians in the Nashville scene. But the love for the music and the bond they share keeps the music strong.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Inspired by jazz fusion icons such as Allan Holdsworth, Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock and many others, Mr. Mayo stretches their music just a little beyond comprehension. With their wide array of musical influence spanning over countless genres to include Jazz, Rock, R&B, Gospel and even Hip Hop, their live sound will leave you on the edge of your seat, wondering what may happen next. From sheering guitar solos to tight unison hits, to delicate melodic moments, Mr. Mayo captures the true essence of what it means to make music together as a band and leave the audience craving more.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The most important thing to the band is the music, and the music can reflect all types of situations, but at the end of day it’s our love for it and how we’re able to express ourselves through the music that keeps the band alive.
